tailgate step

I currently pull my 5th wheel with a 2003 Dodge 3500 with an Access bed cover. I am looking for a tailgate step that will not interfere with the cover when it is closed. Currently, Bed Hopper and Kwik Gate acknowledge a problem with covers. I need one that will mount against the inside of the tailgate without affecting the top surface when the cover is closed.

Can anyone suggest one? I prefer not to use a hitch mounted step.

Thanks

Dick Whiteside

Very slick! I followed the link you provided. They also have a similar device that extends from beneath the rear fender flare. I could use that to stand on while arm-wrestling the hitch release arm.

Dave,do you have the link to the device that extends from beneath the rear fender flare? Looks like you have the same truck I do,I still have to use a short ladder to reach the hitch release.

Dick,it ain't cheap it retails for 250.00 I lucked out and picked it up on E-Bay for 195.00.
It's excellent quality so I didn't mind the price.

It's a few seconds into the video, after the girl demos the full-length step.

I think it is the same one as on the rear bumper, just mounted on the frame forward of the wheel. I'm emailing them since there are no dealers listed locally (or even close by for that matter).

I ordered a Step King from Geno's Garage. It's the two step rather than the one. I need the extra step just because I do. Capacity is 400#, let's hope I don't need all of it though I'm "up there". Price shipped is $112 so it's afordable and cheaper than a lot of other places.

Thanks for the advice and once I get it installed, I'll report back.

Dave, that video got me all excited about that step that mounts on drivers side in front of the rear wheel. That would really help when needed for that 5th wheel release. In fact that would be more useful to me instead of the one in back.
I called the 800 number for Amp Research and they told me that was a proto-type and right now they weren't planning on producing it.
Oh well!

That is a pretty expensive step stool. I went with the 3 step stool from wally mart for 12.99 on sale. Works just fine..

Rich, we have two large labs plus all of the equipment that go's with them, ramp etc. and I just didn't need another object floating around in that truck. It's so convenient to just tap the step and climb on up,but that's just me. I am growing lazier at my old age.

I looked at it as more convenient as well - one less thing to get left behind by mistake when loading, one less thing loose flying around on our good, smooth roads (not!!)..... Come on Amp-Research (or some one else), bring it on.

Did I mention that we ran over the step stool twice or was it three times and had to replace it each time. We haul it in the under belly as we also had one float out of the back of the truck in Canada.

You guys must have some pretty tall trucks or you're just short. I don't need anything to unhook the Monty except my hands. On the other "hand" I can't seem to get my big a-- in the bed without a step ladder of some kind which is why I ordered the Step Gate.

On the newer models the sides are much higher,I am 6'2" and can't reach the hitch release to put a lock on it.
ronstan,no offense but that looks like another loose object to store. Jack
