Battery Draining Noise

Parked my '17 305RL - when closing it up, thought there was a low hum noise under the bathroom. Went back a week later and the battery was dead. Plugged in the shore power and the only way to stop the noise was to flip the 50A breaker.

Any clues on how to track this down? All easily accessible items were OFF.

Appreciate some knowledge from more experienced folks.

Not familiar with your 305RL but did you take a look under the bathroom to see what could be causing the noise?

Are you pre-wired for a generator. If so, you might have a transfer switch that is sticking.

In our old rig the converter was under the stairs.

Could it be you left the water pump on?

If it's like our old rig, each set of slots had four screws holding them on. I'd take them out and put blocking material behind them in the summer to keep the heat in the basement and the cool air in the rig. When I would take them out the converter was about a foot back in the middle.

Thanks DQ - when "Harvey" leaves Texas, I'll dive in but it won't be before week from Tuesday. We got luck living East of Huntsville but many of our friends and family around Houston are not ... prayers for them

The transfer switch is an AC device; nothing at all to do with DC or the battery.

The transfer switch can hum, but only when connected to shore power. If you heard a hum when not connected to shore power, it was not the transfer switch.

So, if you heard a hum when not connected to shore power it had to be a DC device, but you said when you tripped the 50A AC breaker the hum went away. That is a little confusing.

There are loads on the battery that will discharge it although one week sounds a little quick. The only real way to stop all parasitic loads is to disconnect the cable at the battery; even the battery disconnect will not kill everything.

If you can identify what load is draining your battery, you could disconnect it; otherwise just pull the cable off the battery.

After Hurricane Harvey leaves Texas ... I'll get into this again and make sure of the conditions. shore vs. dc only. My other thought was, if sound is there on dc only, is to pull one fuse at a time to see when sound stops. The other trick is to put a test light disconnect ground lead and negative post of battery - light goes out when correct circuit is pulled. Might have to start with all fuses out and add back until light goes on.

Do you have an inverter which converts DC to AC? Do you have a residential fridge?
