It does look like my HC, but my unit says High Country below the Montana name. This unit does not say High Country.

Had one of those installed at the fall rally three years ago good investment

If I remember correctly, the norcold 1210 takes 7 amps of 120vac or almost 900 watts. That would translate to around 1200 watts on the 12vdc side. A 1500 or 2000 watt inverter would be needed and it could be the cheaper modified sinewave unit in this case. Inverter has to be mounted in the passthrough and 12vdc power cables to it would need to be pretty hefty...along with a good 200-250 amp breaker between battery positive and inverter positive input. A couple of new romex runs, junction boxes, and transfer switch needed to switch between shore power and inverter power. Worth it? Not in my opinion.

We have travelled all over North America over the past 10 years and always shut the propane off when on the road, as advised at the Escapees RV Boot Camp. Never had a problem with food thawing. Also, recently, I got the right side wheels of the 5er deep in a ditch in a campground in NW Territories. It was 24 hours before we got towed out and daytime temps were in the 70s. Didn't dare run the fridge at the angle we were at. No problem with food in freezer or fridge except ice cream was a tad soft.

Laura,
You are correct, that's definitely not a 3790 or 3791. Way to short to be one of those models.

looks like they found source of fire in the brakes.

Another reason to have TST 507 TPMS..It tell you tire pressure and temps. He could have seen the temp rise on the wheel before it caught fire.

I have a High Country too (330RL), but on the new ones like mine the "High Country" part is in a color so light that from a distance it looks like it just says Montana. I agree with others' assessment that it's a 305RL.

Wow, that is scary!! I had a close call last month.
We were flagged down by a passing motorist who alerted us that the right rear wheel of 2019 Montana was on fire! I immediately pulled over to the side of the freeway. The wheel was smoking, but I could see no flame. I opened the door, reached inside and grabbed the fire extinguisher and sprayed the wheel. The smoke was significantly reduced, but the wheel was extremely hot. We were in a terrible spot along the side of the freeway, so I traveled one and a half miles at low speed with 4-way flashers on to the next exit. When the drum was removed (still so hot required thick leather gloves to handle), the brakes latterly fell out to the ground.

Definitely will be installing a TPMS with temperature.

I have TPMS. I have lowered the temp alarm threshold. Previously set at 158 deg (default). I set it to 120 deg.
I have a couple of spares. I think I will set one to 110 and keep it in the camper next to the fridge wall. If you run your hand over wall of the fridge it is pretty warm along the side the heat tube riser is.
I think i will carry an extra fire extinguisher.

158 deg is the default temp on TST and recommended by tire manufactures and is the temp where tires will start having issues...lowering it to 120 deg will give you constant alarms. I keep 110 psi in my G614 tires and my normal temps go above 120 deg..

Interesting discussion. All of the potential causes and preventions have been discussed here at times. We do not have the automatic fire extinguisher but do have the ARP, TST TPMS, and disc brakes. The main takeaway for me was no one was hurt and they found the cause.

Does it really matter what caused the fire! they are all OK. We don't know if they had a TPMS or a auto fire extinguisher sys or a ARP or even Disk brakes! As far as a fire in a RV you don't have much time to react.

Even disc brakes can hang up if the slide pins (Kodiak style, Dexter has a different multi piston fixed caliper design) aren't lubed occasionally, i.e. when you inspect and lube the wheel bearings. I found the slide pins on our with disk brakes pretty dry s they got a lube with a special silicone based grease.

A TPMS and plus an ARP system might save your RV. I use a TPMS, the ARP is very difficult to install on ours as noted above and elsewher on the site. We seldom run the fridge on gas

Conventional wisdom says it was a HC305RL so I'll go along with assessment. I picked up my 2019 mid year in 2018 and did a couple of short trips. I did have wheel bearings repacked and brakes checked this year before our 9 week trip. Really glad I did! Additionally, I check tire temp every-time I stop which is about every 60-90 minutes due to wife's and dog's weak bladders.

Later this week I'll pull it back to the house for a run up the OR coast to Coos Bay. Think I'll check my Norcold to see if it's in the Norcold recall. And I'll look into the Halon extinguisher mentioned in this thread.

I am curious about the difficulty of ARP install. Everything on mine was done from the outside of the coach except the fans inside. There, we ran the wire through the drain tube.

On our '14 343RL HC, the fridge needs to be pulled out as there is absolutely no room to reach the 'boiler'- barely minimum cooling air space according to the Norcold installation instruction book. Since our HC has a full counter instead of an island, the doors need to also be removed first. The fridge then has to be turned 90 degrees slid past the end of the counter for work space. Obviously not all Montanas or High Country models will share this problem - some even have a Dometic fridge().. I also added 100cfm withtwo more cooling fans.

Did I say we have good insurance?

If you go buy a TPMS get the one that you can air the tires though the transmitter without taking them off. I did not get that kind and I wish I had now.
