New 3150RL

We will take delivery of our new 2014 3150RL this Friday. We are so excited to finally make our choice. In our deal we are replacing the tires with Goodyear G614 G rated tires. Those of you that have the newer models what else should I have done while at the dealer. I welcome all suggestions.

Consider roof vent covers, insect screens on the water heater, furnace, and frig. screen door screen protectors, extended warranty, make sure the tires have steel valves, lube plate, sewer hose and connections, water hose and a water filter and regulator, cable tv cable, 50amp to 30amp pigtail, and a good PDI (Post Delivery Inspection) checklist.

Captain Joe just about covered it. I'd ad at least a surge suppressor. If you can afford it get an EMS system. The EMS functions as a surge suppressor but will also tell you and protect you for other electrical issues at the pedestal. They've saved a number of us over the years.

Hi, I have a 2014 3150RL. Put vent covers on the bathroom and one by the shower. You can buy them from Amazon for $20 each (Camco brand) I would NOT put insect screens on anything, the warranty is void if you do. A large lube plate is a good idea. The sewer hose and stuff is common sense stuff. You do not mention if your are experienced RV'ers or if this is your first one. Buy the best sewer hose they have available. The blue hose is good for maybe a few times. If you have a dog pet depending his activity you might want a lower screen door protector. A screen door cross bar handle is a nice thing. If you are getting G614's the steel stems are a idea, however the stems that are rubber with exposed metal will work on the high pressure you might want to run. You will find your rig will weigh about 10,500lbs on the axles. A good LT tire will be plenty and cost about $1,000 minus the trade in of the Goodyear Marathon's. You will need a good TV cable. If you find a cable installer, or a local cable company buy a 50' piece of RG6 and have them put ends on it. You will need a 50A to 30A adapter so you can plug your 50A cord into a 30A plug. You might consider the marine adapter that will plug into the 50A plug on the back of your RV so you can connect a 30A cord. I have both a 50' and a 30' handy if you do not need 50A, like loading at the house. Also a 30A to 15A adapter. I do not have the EMS surge thing. I use a $8.00 surge protector on everything that plugs in. TV, microwave, frig, etc. In over 10 years of fulltiming and 10 years part timming I have yet to have a problem.

Extended warranty, I would never consider one. Some folks say you MUST have one, they saved me $xxx. The next guy had a $500 claim, cost the deductible, but he paid $1,500 for it. So it cost him $1,000 for his piece of mind, but some one made a $1,000 off him.

You will want to buy the 3" valve that goes on the twist connection where the sewer hose connects. The drain pipe from the black and gray tanks do not have much slope. When you dump the water flow stops. You put the outside cap on and go the next campsite. You remove the cap and you will get a couple of cups of stuff out of the pipe. The best $20.76 you ever spent. (Amazon Valtera T58 twist on valve).

A tooth brush holder (Camco 57203) Vent covers (Camco 40431) You will find other stuff you need, but this is a starter. If you are getting the level up. 6 2x8 about a foot long for under the jack pads. Maybe.

You might consider a tire monitor. I use a TST and very happy with it. Another add you might consider is the Mor/Ryde X Factor braces. I had them installed. The spring shackles are welded to the bottom of the I-bean with a small cripple welded on the outside flange. A weak point in the suspension.

You really don't need to go with the G614's on your camper. A good set of LT tires will do your weight just fine. I have the BF Goodrich Commercial TA's and so far no problems.

Your best bet is to weigh it after you load it up for camping, then decide on new tires.

I ran my marathons for 3 years before changing them out, although I always wondered if we were going to make it to our destination.

My weights fully loaded are:

Trailer axles – 10740#

Pin weight on Dodge 3500 – 2,400#

TOTAL Weight of the Montana 13,140#

I forgot to mention one thing, depending on when this trailer was/is built, earlier in 2013 there was a recall on the electric motor in the awning. If Keystone did the recall there will be a green dot sticker on the end of the motor. (forward arm) The wires will be too long and can/will get pinched when the awning is rolled up. When pinched the awning will not work because of a blown fuse. The wires need to be tidied up or re-done. Check during the PDI. You will need a 8' step ladder. Awning rolled out.

I decided to go with Bridgestone Duravis R250s on my 3150RL as they are cheaper and don't require metal valve stems and meet my weight requirements. I think you'll be happy with the GY614s. Be sure to follow the tire inflation chart according to your loaded weight. I'm happy to hear that you decided to get the marabombs off your new Montana. A smart move.
Others here have posted great suggestions. I'll echo DQDick regarding installing an EMS (Electrical Management System). I bought and installed the Progressive Industries HW50C (see my signature). I did this before we went on our 1st camping trip. The rule about an ounce of prevention applies here.
