You do not need a special second generater. Use one in the winter or two in the summer. Honda does give you the the ability to use a boat gas tank but unless you are staying for extended periods I. A parking lot you won't need it.

Oh yeah if you have a Progressive Industry product you will have to turn it off to use small inverter generators.

We have a Yamaha 3000 inverter and love it. Very quiet wherever we go. So far it sits with heavy chains locked in the back of our truck. It runs our a/c or furnace just fine. More money up front but no plastic internal parts to break.

DH was thinking about trying to rig it in the compartment at the front of the 5th wheel with some kind of external high exhaust system but we haven’t finished thinking that thru yet.

Good luck with your decision!

Well I stand corrected about the generator, thanks JLB for enlightening me as it is as good as clone as I have ever seen. I'm pretty sure I will not be returning it to Costco as it runs flawlessly as the Yamahas that I used as a carpenter on construction jobs with no temporary power set up yet. My guess is it is as good spec wise as the real Yamaha or Honda's. I guess time will tell. My guess is that Yamaha and Honda are both making a huge profit off their inverter generaters.

Ok - when bringing the 5er home, i need to get power to run one a/c - i have a 7800w generator - is there a good way to get a good sinewave off of it? or just get the EU2200i?

If you need to run a single ac unit, you will need 2 x 2200 Hondas or something that can put out 20-25 amps, as mentioned, maybe a pair of Costo clones for a grand.

If you have a 7800 watt generator and you need to run an AC use it. I don’t know how you are going to get a wire from the 5er to the generator.

Camco-55422-PowerGrip-Standard-Generator adapter.
With the right adapter you can run everything. This is the one I use on my Generac 5500. I can run both AC units. Pay attention to which way the ground goes up or down. Most 5500 watt or bigger uses this one and 5000 and below uses the other one. If your generator has a twist lock on it check it out.

It's on wheels - left over from Hurricanes Rita / Ivan - during Rita, had two running on the S&B - nearly $100per day - no 5er then

I bought the Champion Duel Fuel 3500 gas, propane, inverter. Quieter than most according to YouTube tests (could only compare it to my old one, noise Birtha), one of a very few that has an RV 30 amp connector on it. Have used it extensively with no issues, even at the house to run the refrigerator. The one thing I can say is no matter what you get follow the maintenance instructions and it will last a long time, my last one was 20 years old.

Oh and around 800$ it comes with its own argument right there.
30amp outlet is just built in - no adapter needed.
Very comfortable and it will still run 1 AC unit at 3100watt

Love my remote start triple fuel option CHAMPION. My wife really likes being able to start it without me being there!

BBottom line they all last about the same hours.. I’m not spending 2000 for a generator that does the same for 800..

I respectively disagree! They are not all the same.

If you are going to use a generator day to day then spending $5,000.00 to get one installed is probably a good idea, but if those of us that don't boon-dock regularly and use it occasionally or have it for backup then I think a good will known $800.00 to $1000.00 generator is fine

With respect to the OP's question/comment I would recommend going with an inverter genset like the Honda. You do not need to purchase a second gen in order to start the AC unit. You can buy something like MicroAir's Easy Start and successfully start your 15k AC with only the one Honda EU2000. Youtube search will provide you with lots of information. As a matter of fact there is a recent thread on the forum regarding his install. Also there are a lot of discount codes available in the internet for anywhere from$25-40 off the price of the ES. I am not affiliated in anyway with MicroAir just sharing a product that works and seems to fit the scenario.

Considering you mention running gen in retail parking lots I would avoid open frame or contractor gens at all costs.

How Big Is Too Big

I think this is big enough for my rig and maybe a couple of good friends.
Its nice and quiet also. It is a little pricey but worth every penny. LOL

I have 3 open frame Generac generators. They all will handle my rv with both airs easily and are just as quite as the Honda's at 150 yards away. If you want a generator that handles all your needs then the minimum i would use is 5500 watts. I installed a rv plug on my 5500 and 7000 watt generac so that if i lose electricity at home i can use one or the other for the rv. These are way to heavy ,noisy and expensive to operate or to tote around. In my case they are for emergency's only. I've seen the u-tube on the micro-air soft start with 2000 watt Honda.Yes it might work but my ems remote shows 14 amps on my 13,500 air and 16 amps on my 15,000 air and the Honda's are rated for 13.3 amps on the 2000 and 15 amps on the 2200. To me you are living on the edge with one small generator with a/c. I would go with 2 small generators in tandem or about a 3,000 watt single. I would still install a soft start with 3,000 watts or less. Even with small generators you need to manage your electricity wisely.
