What is paying to much for a use Montana, is paying Book value for a used Montana 3400rl worth the value

A major consideration in price is the overall condition of the unit. I would rather pay a little more for an excellent unit that has been well maintained. Book value is one factor.

I agree. Book value is a place to start. Careful inspection of the rig, the roof, and all the systems is a must and the most important factor.

we just bought a 2010 3400rl used but it was lightly used by an elderly couple and it was stored in an airplane hanger all the time when not being used. unit was almost brand new looking and well well taken care of. so we may have paid a little more for it
but it is well built and very nice and well kept and worth the money. we will use it for as long as we can,

I agree, if it is in real good condition book value is a start. I wouldn't begin to tackle an RV that hasn't been well taken care of. The cost of repairs can just add up too quickly.

I bought 2009 Montana 3400rl with washer dryer combo, solar, from a great dealer with great service , if you can believe it., they went through everything, and showed us all the goodies and how they work, just tipical decal cracking, and little front cap fad, no peeling thats it. bought uncle sams 4 year maintenance plan, just in case, will be retire in june wife and I, going to see the northwest first and take baby steps to become fulltimers. bought it in november so by june i am sure it will be worth alot less, but plan on using it forever. Paid Nada for it. But am happy ,longs as nothing bad goes wrong with unit.

I have read that the best way to treat Montana decals , is with 303 aviator oil.

I have never bought a used vehicle of any kind without consulting http://www.nada.com/. It is what most banks use for loan value. It's a safe bet if the bank won't loan the asking price of a vehicle, you'll be upside down right off the bat. JMHO.

Our first fiver we had it narrowed down to two different 2008 Montana 3400RL's. One was at a dealer's lot and one was out of state by a private owner. The dealer's unit had a washer/dryer, the private owner's rig didn't have a washer dryer but had new G614's installed. Both units were in excellent condition inside and out.

Got the Montana from the private party for under book price and about $6,000 below what the dealer wanted.

We bought our 2010 used. Spent several years shopping around, so had a good idea of what we wanted and what it would end up costing. When we found this one, the price was a little higher than I expected. But, after googling the model, found others around the country similarly equipped in the same price range. It was lightly used, and in good overall shape, so we went for it. Now 2 years later, my only complaint is the decals starting to crack and peel. But that's fix-able. No regrets here.
