4200 mile round trip
We are back in Central Texas. The trip to North Carolina for Christmas with 7 of the 12 Grand children was great. We met some friends from South Carolina, after Christmas, in Williamsburg, VA. Touring all the historical sites around there (Jamestown and Yorktown) was rewarding.
We then traveled south to Florida, ending up in Pensacola where we enjoyed exploring the Naval Air Museum. Our tour guide for the walking tour was outstanding. He knew his air and war history well form WWI through Dessart Storm. There were interesting stories about many of the displayed aircraft.
I 10 and I 12 across Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana was not as bad as I had feared. All the campgrounds south of Brunswick, GA carried a very good census. We found a well manicured Campground in Livingston, LA. At the end of the day, we were treated with an extraordinarily colorful sunset reflecting into their lake.
We capped off our camping by stopping at Escapees' Rainbows Inn in Livingston, TX. There is always a special greeting there.
One of the best things about this excursion is that the highest price we paid for fuel was $2.49. Most often it was $2.29 or less. How wonderfully different from the $4.50 - 4.75 of last summer when we covered about the same number of miles.
Damage report: A couple of finials atop the light fixtures vibrated loose, as did a knob handle. Replaced a couple of light bulbs. On our last night away, the drawer on the air bed couch came loose from the drawer hardware. It looks as if I will need to replace the mechanism with better grade hardware. I guess that isn't a big surprise, but for what those things cost one might expect higher quality.
All in all, a very satisfying trip through the South.
