Follow-up to post! I emailed Keystone with VIN # and they replied regarding axles on 2003 Montana. I have Al-Ko Kober axles and each rated at 6000#. This may help any other 2003 owner, as well.

I just replaced mine and bought locally from a trailer parts store. I paid alittle more -$75.00 each- but like to help the locals. I was told the plates with the white wires were rated at 5,000# and the black wired plates were rated 7,000# but were totally interchangable and they were. Very easy and worked great. etrailerparts.com does have the same parts and are cheaper and if you buy them in sets the price is lower yet, same with bearing and seals.

The ones I bought was from a dexter dealer and are dexter with the name stamped on them and were 47.00 per wheel + tax. You can buy direct from dexter and pay their price or buy from a local dealer that orders from dexter and save on the same backing plates and axels. JMHO As long as it has dexter on it I'm OK with that.

Two years ago I considered brake shoe replacement on the Monty, my service man suggested that it was much cheaper and better in the long run to replace the entire assembly so that all the parts including the magnets were new. He was right and we are very happy with the new brakes.
