rope lights

I had a few folks ask for pictures of the lights I had installed. Here are a few pictures of them around the entire island. These are installed under the counter top lip and are not visible unless you lay on the floor and look under the lip. These are taken during the daylight, looks much better at night. Thanks to Steve R. I am able to finally post them.

Great - another task for my list. These look great!! Sometimes I lay a rope along the top of the slide out - provides a nice TV watching light and ambience.

Judy,
Thank you!

Carol,
I used clear thumb tacks spaced about every 12" or so. The 6 other new kits I bought in Feb. came with their own mounting bracket. I went with the thumb tacks as the hole they leave is much smaller than using the screws the kits come with. Being under that lip the tiny holes will not be noticeable if I ever trade this coach in for another Montana.

VanMan,
I was thinking of doing the same thing, rope lights around the slides as well. Now that I have another 6 packages might have to work on that this week. Oh the possibilities...

Montana Sky, Looks very nice!! I was wanting to do something like that also. Can I ask where you found the rope lights? I have seen where some are very skinny but have not been able to find them. Thanks!

Dave, those lights must give off a very nice ambience and the right tunes in the background and a nice red wine to sip on. I might look into some rope lighting myself. Good Job.

I put some of these in the stick house along the top inside edge of three bookcases which are attached together (to now make a full wall of shelves). I just used small nails under the rope and then slightly bent them upward to hold the lights. Of course I don't have to worry about the bumpy roads !!

Ours are just the 110V rope lights you can find at WalMart. You can buy these in 12V also but they are pricey. I just caught them at Christmas time. We have blue and white for the slide out so it just depends on the mood we're in (or want to be in).

I hope your are happy with yourself now. Everybody will be wanting them installed.
Think I will have to go by stock in rope lights now.
If my wife reads this I am cooked - might as well go get the tools out.

The AC ones are fairly cheap. On-line, SailorSams.com has them for $1.29 per foot for both the 3/8" and 1/2" diameter ones. Cabelas carries them too, but they are a little pricier: $14.99 for a 6 foot length.

Maybe I have found a new employment opportunity. Just the thing. Rv decor with Rope lights! Who knew?

Don,
I must say, the tunes are always spinning, and its 5 o'clock somewhere.

Carol,
This one is hard to explain so bare with me. If you look at the thumb tack from the side, it has two ledges, 1 at the base where the tack goes in and the 2nd where you would press to push the tack into the wall. The rope light fits between those 2 ridges. I took the rope and stuck it under the counter first, then placed the tack so the rope fit between those two ridges. Once I finally had the tack and rope in place I pushed the tack into the cabinet. The trick to making the lights stay in place while traveling is to have them pressed firm against the bottom of the countertop. Make sure there is no slack in rope and it will be perfect. I have to admit I stole this idea from one of the Marathon Prevost H3-45's I was in last year. They used the high end fiber optic lighting under the toe kicks along the counter. I saw it and knew exactly where and how I was going to pull this one off. I was able to find these lights at Target during the holiday season last year. I did see something very similar at Lowe's last week. You might want to check there, Wal*Mart or Home Depot.

Sorry Mudchief!
I wanted to do the toe kick at first but the island only had them on the kitchen side. So I improvised and came up with a solution to get the effect I was going for.

I am just getting started on some of these upgrade ideas in my head. Will be a slow going process throughout the summer, maybe I will have them done before the fall rally in Goshen. Just another idea for those of you that have space above your cabintes. I think the 3475RL comes to mind of having space up there along with the 3600RE. What a perfect place for some rope lights!!! Maybe around the bottom of the bed? Sure beats having to turn on those bright 12v lights in the middle of the night. Oh the ideas are endless....

And incase any of you folks from Keystone get the thought of using my rope light idea in the 07 Montana's I only have one request. Remember where you got it from. =) Maybe we can call it "Dave lights" in the options section of the brochure. LOL!
