Dumb but educated
I did a dumb thing yesterday when getting ready to leave my camp spot. I tried raising the nose of the Monty with the rear landing legs still down. This put an undo load on the landing gear motor and needless to say, I blew the fuse. But thanks to all the education that all of you great MOC members give, I immediatley knew what happened. I had already bought myself a box of 30 amp fuses and I knew exactly where to look to find the fuse as I had already located it because of previous post on here about landing gears not working. Within one minute, I had the fuse replaced, went and raised the rear landing legs and began to raise the nose of the Monty so I could hook up and get on the road....This site is invaluable to all of us. That is why I call myself an educated dummy....Thanks everyone for your trial and errors so I can learn from them.

I think you underestimate yourself. We've all made the mistake of trying to raise the nose with the rear stabilizers down and wonder why the front doesn't lift! Don't put yourself down. You haven't tried to pull out while having a set of Roto-Choks between your wheels, have you? I have.

Remember, to error is human, to know where to find the answer is divine.
I've blown the fuse by trying to lift the truck along with the front of the 5er.

There is also another line that goes with that. To error is human and some people are more human than others.

I did the same thing, only I wasn't lucky enough to blow a fuse. Bent the rear jacks. Fortunately, I realized it and we straightened them back out. If you count all of the dumb mistakes most of us make, the number would be quite large. Just this year alone, I almost drove out of the campground with a flat tire and also almost pulled out without the hitch being shut (that would have hurt). In both of those cases a little voice said "you need to stop and check something". I have a really good guardian angel. Glad you figured it out quick and without damage.

I have a tendency to crush wheel chocks. I forget about them until I feel the big bump when pulling out. Have you ever seen one of them plastic wheel chocks crushed flat.? It ain't pretty and then you got my Mary doing that tsk, tsk bussiness over your shoulder. If it wasn't for the goofs what fun would it be. I may not be to smart but I go rving.

I bought a new SOB in 2001 and parked it in my back yard. We have a wood privacy fence with a 12 ft gate. Well the first time I pulled out of the yard I could hear wood being ripped apart. To make a long story short it cost me $10. to fix the fence and $200.00 to replace my new circular stairs. To this day the stairs are checked 2 or 3 times to make sure they are up.

My wife makes the next-to-final walk around now. Several times she has caught that I've still got the Roto-Choks in. Won't quit using them because they do what we want them to do.
