Dont Beat me up on this Question!!!
I keep forgetting to ask this question. My wife and I have become RV Voyeurs. Not in a bad way, but often we sit after a hard day working at a local coffee spot (I can quit anytime I want to) which is on the main hiway into our area (US 101) and of course there are hundreds of Rv's to view on the endless summer parade to the Ocean. Question is, I see a very good percentage with a step ladder bungeed to the ladder. As I am new to this lifestyle, I have to ask why? They do not look tall enough to reach the roof, are they to get you up on the ladder? Enquiring minds want to know. Thanks

Folks use them to assist them in washing and waxing their units...or doing things around their trailer or getting onto the ladder that gets you to the roof or..And I have actually seen it........a guy up there on his ladder spying on a group of folks 2 rows over from him......guess he didnt get invited to happy hour and wondered who was there???

Seems like a ladder is like a cell phone. Didn't see the need for one. Then get one. Now, how did I make it without it? Welcome to the lifestyle and the forum.

I have a folding ladder in side compartment for:
1. for getting into pickup bed while hooked up.
2. for putting on the back-of cab tool box to wax or clean nose.
3. for cleaning windows.
4. for setting against slide outs to clean slide topper debris off
5. for fixing awning or cleaning.
I'm sure there's more

A ladder can be handy for many unforeseen maintenance calls. Stuck antenna, vent not closing, check the roof after traveling back roads with low branches, etc, etc. I never carry one because like you have noticed how many people do. I have never had a problem borrowing one when needed and stick with that plan..
So, if you like to borrow stuff, forget it.. if you like to loan stuff out, you better get one!!!

I like to borrow and to loan, but I have not found the right ladder yet. I'm leaning to the "telescopic," one, but I want to see one in action first instead of just buying on-line.
So for now - I'm a borrower.

I have a ladder, one of those folding 6 foot C.W ladders that I carry in the front compartment. Have carried it around for over two years..have never used it for the camper. Have a step stool used for getting into the truck bed, etc..Now that is handy.. Come to the fall rally in Goshen and I will make you a good price on the folding ladder that we carry around taking up space, at the yard sale. Oh..I do not wax the camper.. There is a ladder on the camper to get on the roof.Do not know what possessed me to buy the ladder.

We have one of those ladders that CW carries as well. We use it in the winter to reach the roof to get snow off the roof and slides.

I have a folding 5-ft ladder bought from CW when just beginning full timing back in 2000. Found a need for a taller ladder so I purchased one of 12-telescoping ladders for use when wanting to get up next to the top, like checking the awning, etc. It turns out to be good quality for the money. Cost me $250 four years ago but it makes it nice to have. A lot of people always seem nearby to "borrow" it. Can't tell you whether or not you would need one because I don't thing anyone NEEDS one.

So... is there a reason why the unit ladder will not suffice? (The one that is attached to the rear of the 5-er)

I think the camper ladder is rated for 250/300lbs. That may be a limiting factor. It gets me up there on the very few occasions I have to get up there. Helen, a light weight, does most of the roof stuff as she does not trust me in high places. I usually fall off them..

I used my 7 ft. folding ladder(from CW) that I carry in the
front compartment just last week to trim a tree branch in the RV park to make for better parking clearance--

Wayne-- The insurance adjuster carried one of the telescopic ladders in the back of his SUV when he came and did the adjusting on the damage to the stick from the last week in June storm! I asked him about it and he said he would not be without it! He telescoped it out and it locked into place for each rung! He said his was rated at 350 lbs., I think! He got it on line from a tool site. If I get one, I'm with you, I'll get the telescopic one! Until then I'll just climb up on top of the Monte and view the world from there! I have a telescoping mop to wash the Monte so don't need the ladder for that! Think if I need one I'll barrow one until I REALLY see a real need for one!

I use mind for the same reason I had one at the stick house. To reach things too high off the ground.

I use the ladder to get onto the ladder tyo the roof. The ladder on the 5ver doesn't seem to have any problem holding my 250 lbs, although I don't push it. Don't exactly scramble up the ladder.
I also have a stepstool for the truck. Works great for getting into the bed, huh Rich?
Steve, I sent to a private e-mail you old law dog you.

I have one of the CW folding ladders that folds up to 4 inch square. I mainly use it for attaching awning deflappers and putting it in back of pickup to wash front cap. Also use it to attach travel velcro to top of awning rods. Use it to wash top of truck. Use it to wash back cap of trailer. A seperate ladder is a very useful tool. I couldn't do the things above without one. I do use the ladder on the back of the trailer to attach wifi antenna and to check roof prior to moving trailer. Rear ladder seems strong enough for me........

Phil,
That one sounds interesting. Could you provide a picture of it folded to 4 inches square? I'd like to see that.
