Doran Pro Pressure Monitor

I have a question about the Doran Pro Pressure monitors. I ordered a set last night. I was talking to someone today and he mentioned he had to change out his rubber valve stems to metal valve stems because the weight of the sensor on the rubber stems caused the rubber stem to leak air when he was driving. Something about the centrifugal force or something like that on the rubber stem causing it to leak air? Has anyone else experienced that? Does the type of valve stem make a difference?
Thanks Steve

Well the rubber stems on our 06 3400 leaked air long before we had the doran system and many folks change out the OEM rubber system stems because of leakage problems. We did have the sensors on a couple of rubber stems for awhile and they caused no trouble.

When you screw them on, don't tighten them to tight and mess up the rubber seal inside the sending unit. We did that to one of them and it started leaking air. I sent it in to pressure-pro, who makes them, and they sent me a new one. We also had a tire go down, one other time, and it set off the alarm in the truck. They are great. Just snug them down to the valve stem and you will be ok........

After having a major blowout last week, I'm considering them now. What is the price to set up 4 tires on the 5th wheel.

Had rubber stems from January until a couple of weeks ago when I changed them out to brass. There was no leakage problem that I could see. The main reason for the change over was to make it easier to use an air chuck on the dual rear tires with the valve stem facing the inside.

As mentioned on a previous post, Bonnie had a flat tire on the inside rear left and did not feel it. Without the Pressure Pro, who knows how far she would have gone before she discovered it. Also read Stiles Watson's post on his blowout on the Monty that he did not know about until a passing motorist signaled him.

We will not hit the road without Pressure Pro in place. Bonnie's one flat was notice enough that the security is worth the price.

See www.rvcams.com I think you can order them directly from Doran but they are the same price at rv cams and the service is number one.

Not sure what you mean John as you know I am old and feeble minded. The sytem will monitor I think up to 32 sensors. You just buy as many sensors as you need. Mine will monitor the camper and the truck with 8 sensors..

Forgot to mention that this forum is educational but also very expensive. I also invested in the Bed saver, rear view camera, V tail gate and Doran pressure pro system..But I feel a lot safer on the road.

Anyone seen any half inch metal extensions; the metal stems I have in my wheels are so short that the sensors will not fit on the stem and clear the rim . Shortest I've seen around here looking in 3 different auto stores is 1.5 to 2 inches long. That would put the sensor out in the wind (so to speak), past the edge of the tire buldge in fact. Not a safe place to have something hanging in my opinion. Thanks.

Hey Rich - What I ment was that on their web site it goes 6 wheels and then 8 wheels. Of course I have the darn DWD so that would need 10 sensors. I didn't know if they gave you an option to by for each wheel. It does say what the cost is per wheel. Or at least this old feeble mind didn't catch it. BUT that is what I ment Rich. and I also want to say, I appreciate your immediate responce John

John, you can buy as many as you want and protect whatever wheels you want. My BIL saw mine and ordered a unit with only 4 sensors. He will monitor Trailer tires for awhile and when he gets used to the monitor and begins to trust in it, he will buy six more for his dually TT....

Hemlockusa, I think they're 50 bucks each sensor.

I have seen sensors that they use a hose clamp and install it on the inside of the rim and the tire then goes on, it is a little more money but you dont have to worry about somebody putting them in there pocket.

this is where I seen the add.

You have to buy the monitor that best fits your situation. The one that we got is for a 10 wheel motor home pulling a six wheel trailer. We only use six monitors on the dually and when we get the Monty we will only use four on the trailer. The unused sensor locations remain dark on the screen.

From what others have said on these posts, I think if at all possible, a change to a longer valve stem would be a better option than an extension. Others have said that the extensions have a tendency to work loose and lose air pressure. Our recent change over from rubber to solid valve stems only cost $1.85 per tire, not a large amount of money.

I could not get the sensors to fit on the inside dually's of the Ford . We are only using the sensors on the camper right now.

Poor people they don't know what they are missing. :-)

I just recently installed a Pressure Pro system and like Richfaa, I started with just the 4 for the Monty. In time I will add the 6 for the truck.
