garyak - has anyone found a 50 to 30 amp adapter that connects to the back of the montana so you don't have to use the heavy 50 amp heavy cord first to reduce down to 30 amp service.

We were given one with our new Montana. It has the big yellow plug that goes into the back of the monty and a short 12" pigtail that ends in a 30 Amp connection. We then just run a 30 amp line to the CG post. (also got the full 50 amp set up and the 50amp to 30 amp pigtail on the CG post end as well as a 20 amp to 30 amp pigtail which I use with the Kipor generator in the bed of my truck when I want to work on the monty in the storage area....got to have music when I work and the new DVD/CD/AM/FM is A/C only and has to use the tv antenna power booster for reception.

Garyak--the adapter Bill describes is available from a number of sources. One version is the "Marinco Park Power 50-Amp Adapter". Camping World just had it on sale for $60. RV Upgrades had the next best price--$70 plus shipping.

Orv, I'm going up to that CG next week. Is there a way I can tell just by looking at the CG outlets - the 30 amp ones? On the 15amp, I asssume they will have a GFI reset button, like in a house, right? Don't know how to tell if a 30 amp outlet is GFI protected?

Might be able to use both 30 amp plugs if I don't have a neighbor this summer on my post. Happened for a good part of last year... (Yes, we take showers and use deodorant... )

Is the hair dryer for you?

Larry & LaVonne
No it's not, Larry. Drying MY hair is not a problem... Cheryl however, has a tendency to trip the 30 amp CG breaker with it when the A/C is on. Not sure if that's something that should be happening or not...

That one has the adapter and 30 amp cord together. I have a short version of that to which I attach a 30 amp RV extension cord but I don't see that one at Camping World, where I got mine. I probably just missed it.

If we are on a 30 amp we occasionally get a tripped breaker; mostly on the micro wave. We have both types of cords, and just add the adapter sometimes if I am just too lazy to drag out a different cord. I do try to stay at only 50 amp spots just because I hate to worry about lack of power.

Dsprik, if she's running the hairdryer on high then that's probably 'normal.' The AC and hairdryer (on high) would be pretty close to 30 amps. Add in the fridge, possibly the water heater, TV, lights, pc, alarm clock, etc., and you'd be over. It would take only a few of those along with the AC and HD to put you over. We find when on 30 amps we can run the HD on low and usually we're ok.
