Many times the dealer will install the second A/C. If done at the factory, they seem to use Dometic. My dealer installed my second A/C and used a slimline Carrier unit.

I went with the Duo-Therm because it is the most widely used, therefore parts will be the most widely available. (When traveling.)
I went with the 15,000 BTU. I like the quick cool down after setting up, I run both A/C units full blast, brings the comfort level in the Monte down in a hurry. For the minor difference in cost, it was worth it to me.

As far as the factory install - they use the Dometic Brisk-Air, which is the same model as the rear only non-ducted.

Of course - that can change anytime.

What about increasing the height of the trailer overall? If you install the Dometic 13,500 will that increase your height? We have a Montana 3485SA stated to be 12'9" with only the back mounted Dometic.

lcarter,

The front factory AC increased our height to 13'-3". (shown in signature pic above).

Even with the low profile a/c up front, the highest point on my coach is the Fantastic Fan vent cover in the kitchen which stands at 13'3".

Montana Sky,

We added the Dometic AC earlier this year. I noticied that there was a heat mode on the unit when we camped last time (finally had my glasses on when I turned it on). Does the heat mode work as a heater? If so how much does it heat in your 3400?

Colleen, I think that is a feature that works when you install an optional heat insert. I put one on my first TT, didn't like it much, the unit moves too much air for heat to work very well in my opinion, BUT some have said that they love their heat insert. For the small cost, it may be worth a try for some.

Colleen,
I just got home from the river where it rained all weekend and temps were down into the high 30's to low 40's at night. For me, I love the heat strip in my bedroom a/c. I use it all the time during the early spring and late fall months. If I shut the bedroom pocket door in my coach and leave the heat strip set at it hottest setting, within an hour the bedroom becomes too hot to tolerate. Because electric is free in my park, I run the bedroom a/c heat strip, a small space heater on the kitchen counter and the fireplace heater. Running these three units will keep the coach at a toasty 75 degrees.
