Critters in Basement

In our stick house, because of living very rurally, we get the occasional mouse in the basement. Not much to eat down there and they end up in mousey heaven. Must have the same situation in the Monty, the oh-so lovely odor of a decessed mouse in the bedroom area of our 3400. Have been crawling around and lots of openings for the little guys. Any suggestions, solutions or comments? I think this weekend the underside must come off. Thanks is advance!

Look under the steps leading to the basement area first before pulling the underneath. Also pull the plastic panel next to the convenience station in the basement (Bsmeaton's advice on removing the shower trap makes the panel removal easier - he wisely warned me not to get wet so keep a towel handy when removing the trap). There is a compartment under the second step that can only be accessed (by me anyway) after removing this panel. We had a problem earlier this spring that I solved by placing traps under the bottom step (behind the louvered wood grate). Caught two there and haven't had a problem since. Hopefully you can find the critter without having to dismantle a lot. Good Luck.

If you don't find it anywhere else, there are two screws holding the plywood in place beneath the bed. That's the plywood that's the base of the under-bed storage area. It could well be in there. There are hydraulic lines in that area coming from below so it is possible for a mouse to get in there. The belly is another possibility. We once had a squirrel in there.
