Which satellite dome?

First... I am stuck with Direct tv, but want a portable dome that would work also for Dish (maybe later). When my S&B house contract runs out, I may switch to Dish in order to have HD. I have searched for comparisons for satellite portable domes King Quest 4100 , 4800 , Winegard G2 and G3 and can't seem to reach a decision. Does any one have any recommendations ?

I have 2 Dish tailgaters. One mounted on my camper the other portable. They both work fine for me. I cut one on choose the state punch the scan button, watch TV in about 10 minuets. It is just that easy. Once I was in Wyoming at 9200 feet and told it I was in Virginia. It still found 2 of 3 satellites.

Winegard G2+ will work well and do exactly what you want. Dip switches on the unit can be changed to get either Dish or Direct. I have two nd love them.

For a portable I would go with a Winegard Pathway X2. Has a bigger dish and will pick up both east and west sat clusters. Only downside is a little larger if space is tight in your rig.

But the WINEGARD Pathway x2 is just for Dish. I need to try to have it also for Direct tv (for 8 more months), then I will switch to Dish. So I need the dome to be able to do both.

Sorry - didn't read fully. I would probably wait to buy then. I made the total switch to Dish after trying it as a stand alone account for a couple of months. The dual or triple service antennas are a little more expensive upfront.

Anyone familiar with the Winegard G3 ? It's suppose to be 20% larger than the G2 for better reception.

That came out after I bought my last G2, but if I need to replace one I'll be looking to go there.

The X2 has worked very well for us. I also had the directv contract and hated it so bad I paid the penalty to get rid of it.

The X2 will require good cabling straight to the box if possible. And, you can get the carry bag for it. That helps with storage but does consume more space.

I have the G3 and it works great with directv. It takes 3-5 min and it locks on to signal.

We use the winegard G2+ Directv SD only for now but that is ???? going to change. HD if you have dish. Easy to set up and fairy compact. IMO they are all good depends on what you need and what you are willing to pay.

DirecTV will be discontinuing SD (standard definition) broadcasts after April, 2019 (latest schedule I've seen). After that, you will need an antenna that receives HD (high def) signals, and that requires getting signals from multiple satellites simultaneously (eg.,via a SWM dish). Be careful not to get an antenna that only gets SD.

You will also need an HD receiver.

We switched from dish to direct and sold our Tailgator. We added direct to our AATT unlimited service and watch everything with my phone wired to the tv.
Works for us.

What if there’s no cellular service? We have stayed several places where service is limited or non-existing.

I have the g3. I was told it’s the exact same thing as the g2+ only with plastic gears instead of metal. It’s worked great for me so far. Only down side is you can not get hd channels with direct tv on it. It will do both direct tv and dish. I had to do a fair amount of adapting and wireing to make the g3 work with my SWIM receivers, but it works great now. I did eliminate the over the air antenna and cable connections to the coach so I could use my SWIM receivers because I didn’t want to buy separate receivers and pay a monthly fee just for the 5th wheel.

Have had DirecTV and enduring lousy Sat svc! Using a King Quest rarely getting signal. Kept cause wife watches unlimited on AT&T phone. Been told Dish has wider band to recieve signal whereas Direct is very narrow. May pay extra just to have Dish on next trip!
