Travel near New Orleans
When we make our trek back to the north, we would like to stop and visit a friend in New Orleans. Can anyone suggest a place to spend a couple of nights about an hours drive north of the city? We'll be coming in from Texas. Thanks for any help. We're not looking for anything fancy, just safe

Sure, there is Fairview/Riverside near Madisonville, LA and Fontainbleau near Mandeville, LA; just down the road from each other and near the causeway. Both are very nice state parks. We have stayed in each of them several times.
Should have added, both are just off I-12.

We are in an RPI/Yogi Bear park as we speak in Robert, LA. It's not too far NE of the Jct. of I-12 and I55. Exit I-12 on LA445 north. It's less than 5 minutes off the interstate. Downtown New Orleans is just a little over an hour via I-12 and the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. It's a nice campground and uncrowded this time of year.

There were 2 "average" RV parks in Slidell, just north of the new I-10 causeway and a KOA on the west side of New Orleans. Be very wary of I-10 south of the new Bridge, it was original ancient cement that caused me to slow to under 40 MPH and the RV/Truck still "porpoised" madly.
