Stereo Replacement

I own a Montana 2880RL built in 2001. The stereo with CD player ha quit and the sound is not great anyway. What have some of you bought for replacement and how hard was the modification to install new one. Is Wal-Mart a good place or some other vender? Thanks, Jeff

I just replaced our Quest 2000 with a Sony DAV245. It was an easy install and sounds much better. Three things to watch out for:

Be sure to label the wires to the speakers.

If you choose a Sony be aware that they use a propriatary connector. I cut the connector off the sony speakers & spliced them to the existing wires. Speaker polarity, 'phasing', is important so mark the + and - of each speaker.

The Quest unit is short. Almost anything you're going to replace it with is going to be deeper. There's lots of wires in there and space might be a problem.

Bonus point:

The Quest is held in place by two screws directly through bottom of the case from the cabinet under it.

Marking the cables is the best, but if you do forget, on most stereo wires there is one wire that has a ribbed, or raised, piece on the side of one of the wires. Check the speaker and see which is connected to positive and make it the same at the stereo end.

Again - don't ask me how I know, but it is much, much easier to mark first.

When our rig was broken into while in storage (a secure(?) storage area) the OEM stereo was stolen. We had it replaced with a "cheap" AIWA because that's all my insurance company at that time would allow.
