FRONT AC UNIT

LOOKING FOR A FRONT AC UNIT FOR MY 3475 MONTY. WHAT SIZE(BTU) WOULD I NEED? AND WHAT MAKE AC UNIT IS THE BEST?? HEARD STORIES ABOUT SOME AC'S RATTLING AND NOT COOLING. ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

The 13,500 btu/h size are more than adequate. Any brand will fit and most likely they are all pretty much the same behind the skin. My only recommendation is to go with a low profile or you'll end up with that "nose wart" like mine

We just had a Carrier AirV 13,500 BTU low profile installed in the front bedroom over the winter. Had a heat strip installed also. That is the extent of the information I can provide, since we have not had a chance to judge it's performance yet.

Had a low profile 13500 btu AC with a heat strip placed on my 3075. Works great!! I wish it was thermostatically controled because it does get a little chilly by morning. Heat strip works well on those cold early mornings.

I am debating this also as we want to get a front AC installed this spring. I understand that the 13K is adequate and about a hundred bucks cheaper. Others say that the extra money is well spent but the smaller one uses less energy. I had a penguin lo profile on our 2955 and it was a problem with water leaking inside. I am not in favor of getting this problem again.

Has anyone used a smaller unit (8500 btu) in the bedroom with the door closed? They draw 8 amps and was wondering if I could get a few hours of cooling from the inverter on the beach if needed. (I have 4 - T105's with 1.8KW inverter, and 2 Solar panels plus 4KW Generator. But no shore power. Thanks for any info.

IS THIS AN EASY INSTALL? LOOKS RATHER SIMPLE AS LONG AS ITS PREWIRED. DEFINETLY GOING FOR THE LOW PROFILE. THANKS EVERYONE

I think the hardest part is getting it on the roof.

I had the same dripping problem as Illapah with the Penguin (Dometic low profile) in our last rig. I couldn't recommend it but perhaps others have had better luck.

We too went with the Carrier AirV 13.5 unit. Currently it is the lowest profile of 7 1/2 inches. I purchased on internet and they shipped to my dealer and dealer installed it. Works great and is relatively quiet. Dennis

I went with the 13,000 btu low profile Penguin. I installed it on my 2004 Monty and when I traded up to my 07,I removed it and put it in the new unit. Have never had a water leak problem. When in the South during the Summer one a/c will not cool these bigger RVs. The hardest part of the install is getting it up on the roof.

I also have a question, I hope I can butt in here and ask, I too just got a Carrier Air V delivered today and I plan on installing it myself. When reading the owners manual it say that since my roof (Montana 3650) slopes down a bit I need to made a wedge to sit it on so that it is level. A friend of mine told me (and he owns a Montana 3670) that the amount of slope is not that big I should be alright sitting it right on the roof. He said he was told by a dealer that it wont hurt anything. Any advice here. ( I really don't want to have to build a wedge to sit it on if I really don't have to.

I WAS LOOKING AT THE COLEMAN POLAR CUB. BUT ITS ONLY 8300 BTU'S. IS THAT ENOUGH FOR A FRONT AC IN HOT WEATHER? DO MOST OF YOU HAVE THE HEAT STRIP?

I also have a "nose wart" a/c installed on my unit. It was a surprise gift so I couldn't scream at the repairman when he said "suprise you have a new airconditioner in the bedroom as well." I wanted to scream but I didn't. Now I have to watch every bridge I go under. The cheek imprints will never come out of the drivers seat of this truck. With that said...get a low profile and save yourself a heart attack.
