do you rotate the tires on your pickup?

I'm coming up on my first scheduled maintenance for my F350 SRW. I notice in the service manual that it calls for rotating tires at every 7500 mile service interval, but it only shows rotating the four tires on the ground and does not include the spare in the tire rotation pattern.

Do you rotate tires on your truck on a regular basis? And if so, what do you do (do you include your spare and what rotation pattern do yo use?) and how often do you rotate them?

I have my 05 F250 SRW 4x4 off road serviced by my Ford dealer and the tires rotated every other service (5K miles) so it's over 10K miles. My truck has over 55K miles on it and still running the original tires, expect at least 75K. My tires run 75 lbs of air all the time and the tire wear is flat across the tread. The spare has never been on the ground which seems to be normal now days, spare is on a regular rim.

David, I rotate the four on the groung only and that is every 6k miles. The spare is not on an aluminum rim so it wouldn't look very good.
It used to be before space saver spares, you would rotate all 5 tires, can't hardly do that on a car anymore!
Once you start the rotation, keep it on a regular basis.

I cross the front to the back and then bring the back straight to the front. I can not use the spare in the rotation, wheel does not match. Mine torque @ 120Ft pounds. I move them spring and fall.

David: I would rotate them for sure. Since you are now full-timing you will burn the rubber off the back tires and the fronts will look like new if you don't rotate. I don't know how you rotate a dually but I am sure someone will know. I rotate about every 5,000 miles and the tires look evenly worn.

Agree, with mismatched spare rims, 4 wheel rotation only. I am also in the spring/fall habit which is about every 12-15K miles.

I rotate mine every 5000 miles. Front to back and put side to inside on rear dully. Usually get 50000-60000 miles on a set of tires. Change them when they don't hold good on pavrment.

Being in the tire business, it's easy for me, every 6000 miles. I also offer this service to my customers at no charge if the tires were purchased from me. Some take advantage of the offer, some don't.

Duallies? I rotate the steer tires to the inside rear, the inside rear to the outside rear, and the outside rear to the steer position. With polished alloy wheels, this process requires dismounting and remounting tires to wheels, and can be expensive. With the chrome similator wheel covers, it's a piece of cake.

With proper tire rotation and vehicle maintenance tire life can be greatly increased.

David, Bill is right about the rear tires. I just rotated my new tires after 12K mile and the tread depth on the front was 13. That was what they were new. However the back were worn down to 9. Out of the 12K about 8K was pulling a heavy trailer. Therefore if you want your tires to wear even you need to rotate often.

We have ours done as book recommends at the dealership when oil change is done. Our book shows the rotation for the dually.
Happy trails......................

I'm finding the same as everybody else - the weight of that trailer really wears down the rear tires!!

I'm rotating at each oil change, front to back. Spare not involved.

Thanks for the feedback. Good advice. Had the local Ford dealer do the tire rotation this afternoon at the same time as he did the normal 7500 mile maintenance. Only had 5500 miles on the truck, but wanted to get the work done now as we will be racking up the miles later this month when we go from Maryland to South Dakota, Colorado and southern Utah in the next 2-3 months. May follow the pattern that some recommend of getting the oil changed every 5000 miles, but may defer some of the other things Ford recommends doing at 15,000 miles until I actually get to that mileage level--seems more important to do the oil more frequently than some of the other maintenance items in Ford's checklist.

I was a bit surprised that it cost $172 for the oil change, tire rotation and "multipoint inspection." Is that a typical price for it? Shold I expect to find something cheaper when we get out west later this month?

David, look for another dealer, tire rotation and oil change at Ford dealer $85.00, that's it.

If you have the Pressure Pro monitoring system, make sure you do not rotate the sensor caps. If you do the new tire locations will read at the old locations on the monitor.

The correct rotation pattern can be found in the owners manual. It even shows how to rotate with or with out the spare and includes dualies.

I include the spare in the rotation since the wheels all match.

I rotate my tires every 5000 to 7500 miles with one exception. When I am at the end of the tires life and I think it is going to be my last rotation I do not do it. I simply let the front tires wear out, then replace them with the rear ones and put the new ones on the rear. This simply fits my budget better than buying 4 tires at once. It usually gives me 4 to 6 months between a complete change.
