camping clubs

Recently retired and long timing. We have been hearing a lot of folks using camping clubs, thousand trails, escapees etc. Looking for info good or bad. Mainly how do you get out of contracts since we are in late 60s and only 25 yrs left to party, lol.

You have to clarify your meaning of camping club. Escapees, Passport America ,etc are not camping clubs
like Thousands trails. Escapees is a membership club that provides discount camping rates and other services as does Passport America, Good Sams and others.

We joined Good Sams, Passport America, and KOA, if you are talking about simple memberships. We plan on keeping all buy KOA. Even though we stay at some KOA's you don't really save much with their membership.

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law joined several like us, but also purchased more of a time share package (can't recall the company). It was in the $2,000 or $3,000 range and entitled them to spend unlimited time at several RV resorts around the Colorado River.

We are full time and move around with minimum stays of 4 months in Illinois and 4 months in SW Florida. We just haven't found one of those extended stay time share type memberships that would currently fit our needs.

We joined 1000 Trails a few years ago. Let it expire at renewal time. Too many rules and regulations, and our biggest objection was where we liked to stay, the majority of the good spots were taken by locals who rented that spot all year. So when we got there, the majority of good spaces were occupied by empty RVs.

We use Good Sam, Escapees and Overnight RV Parking. Probably use Overnight RV Parking the most. We still belong to Passport America and basically if you use it more than once you've paid for it, we just stay free with Overnight Parking since we went solar.

I have looked at the site "overnightrvparking" before and thought about trying it for a year. We don't generally stay at Walmarts or do any dry camping but were going to start doing some during our travels. What do you think of that membership? How many times do you find yourself using it?

Escapees has a special rate. New memberships usually are $70 for the first year. Right now you can join or renew for $29. I find there 15% to 50% discounts pay for the membership in no time.

We use it a lot and are frequent contributors of new places or updates on existing ones. New places, once verified, get you a free month and updates they need get you a free week. Like most things, we love it, but others think it's not for them.
