Colorado Springs to Breckenridge

Hello. We are making a 2 week run up to Colorado on Saturday. I was contemplating taking a different route from Colorado Springs to Breckenridge. In the past I have taken the Interstate 70 route via Denver. However, I was wondering how an F250 with a 39 foot 5er would do on the following route:

- US 24 from Colorado Springs to Hartsel
- CO 9 to Fairplay and continuing on to Breckenridge

On Google Maps, there appear to be quite a few switch backs on CO 9 and I am not sure of the grade.

Any advice or words of wisdom?

Thanks,
Chris

I don't think you would have a problem. I have been that way many times with motorhomes and 5th wheels. The downhill side going from the top of Hoosier Pass going toward Breck does have a few of switch backs but semis go that way all the time. The switchbacks are only near the summit of Hoosier Pass.
I am going up there tomorrow. We have a cabin near the top of Hoosier Pass.
You will be just fine and it is a beautiful drive. You will get to see several 14ers near Hoosier Pass on hwy 9.

It is a nice drive, a guy in Breckenridge once told a flat lander the reason there was no guard rails was because flat landers kept knocking them down.

X2!
We live in Colorado Springs and take that route often enough to know it won't be a problem. As Joe said. take it slow coming off from Hoosier Pass and you'll be fine. The hairpin turns are tight but just look ahead for traffic. No worries! Enjoy and welcome to Colorado!

Excellent. Thank you all, I really appreciate the advice. As you can tell, mountain towing makes me a little nervous as I am a "flat lander".

We will be at Tiger Run RV Resort in Breckenridge next week and then Elk Meadow in Estes Park the week after if you an of the MOC family is around come say hello.

Regards,
Chris
