LCD HD TV Upgrade

We are in market to replace the analog TV (about 25") with an LCD HD unit. The prices we see in Camping World, etc. are very high in comparison to the Best Buy type outlets. I think the ad in Camping World referenced TV built specifically for RVs - they are designed to take the abuse of the road!

Does anyone have any input on upgrading analog to digital TV in their rig?

I also read somewhere digital TVs should not be left in the camper while in storage if winters are cold. We are located in the middle of Kansas and it can get pretty cold.

I don`t believe there are any TVs built specifically for RV use. The new TVs can be left in the rig during winter. You need to have them at normal operating temps before turning them on. We leave ours in with no problems after temperatures down to zero.

The TV we have in our Montana is a View Sonic and we haven't had any trouble with it.

Camping World's claim that TVs they sell are built for RVs is only partially true. That is, all TVs work in RVs! I believe that they just use that as a selling factor. A TV you buy off the floor of any retail store will work well in an RV.

We have use Panasonic, Sony, Akai, and Samsung. The first HDTV we bought was a Sony and was installed in the Cambridge, its was a 26" and we moved it to the bedroom and bought the Akai 37" and installed it in the living area and it work great, we bought them at Circuit City. Then we started buying Samsung which was bought on line for the stick house. Our last two 5th wheels came with Samsung's. They are all HDTV's and we prefer Samsung's. I think almost and HDTV will work, we have had one in the 5er for several years and haven't had a problem. GBY....

We too have had LCD TVs in the 5er for years now with no problems. The "built specifically for RVs" is nothing more than CW's sales hype. Go find the TV you want, at a price you want to pay and install it where you want...and you will be fine. Good luck and enjoy your new TV.

Schmill: I'm up in Manhattan KS and we left our lcd tv in SOB last winter without any problems at all. As mentioned earlier, you just want to bring the coach up to temperature before turning it on -- at least 45 or so degrees.

I replaced my 27" (?) Toshiba Tube TV with a Wal-Mart Sanyo 26" Flat Screen HDTV last year. My initial attempt at mounting it was insufficient and some bad bumps led to it tumbling to the floor. It survived that spill and now I have it bolted down (using the base that comes with the TV) and lowered the velcro straps from their original position to cover it better. So far so good!

Where's Steve Emmel (Emmel)? He has mentioned that his TV in his bedroom in his new Montana is designed to run on 12v DC as well as 120v AC. This could explain why CW mentions "RV TVs"??? Also this would definitely explain the price...

I installed a new Visio 26" HDTV just yesterday I bought at Sams Club. Has to be at least 50 pounds lighter than the one that came with the rig.

We want to thank everybody for their posts regarding HDTVs. We have had good luck with Toshiba products at home and will probably go that route in the Montana.
