Hiking with snakes.. Well, exciting .

[URL[IMG]http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n194/JimsSue13/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpslndyyndi.jpeg[/IMG

The snake picture is to large, please resize it.

We were replacing a 3 year-old Geocache container at the top of a tall rock mountain pile, headed to the truck and I heard a slight scream, turned around and saw the Rattler that struck Sue on the Snake Gator, calf area.
Cool morning, sun was not shining, a bit overcast, ground was cool to the touch. Don't fall for the old 'when it's not hot and sunny snakes will be in their den' not always true.
Happened to me 3 years ago, coming down a steep dry wash bank, the Western Diamondback struck me; same area.
If you hike in the Desert, wear Snake Gators, don't bet you life that you won't need them.
Needless to say, she was shaken the rest of the day, but she hung in there for the hiking.

These "snake gators" are new to us in the cold north. Any pics, what cost and where are they purchased?

OH, HECK NO!!! Steve would be making my funeral arrangements. If any snake bit me (poisonous or non), even with "Snake Gators," I would have a heart attack and die. Right on the spot.

slow.. sometimes no Internet here for some reason, sorry for the slow response.

We both have the Snake Gators, 2 snaps on each leg, top of foot protection. I have hiked many miles in them, comfortable for me.
I think we paid around $60 a Pair.

Good review and a link to ebay.
Around here.. don't get out of the truck in the wild without them.

I think if I were to buy a pair, they would have to be custom made leather with some nice decorations on them

Glad Sue's ok. Got mine on Amazon for about $40. http://www.amazon.com/Rattler-Scalet...=snake+gaiters
They've got some even cheaper in warehouse deals.

We walk almost every morning about 4 miles along the gator trails out of La Posa South and so far only a baby diamondback that got run over....

Guess we will be getting some guards for the Ole leggies!

Tom, you have known me long enough to know I am about half a whack job, I don't follow the rules well. 'friend' me on facebook at Jim Osbern I have two accounts one I don't use, somehow I got two in the same name, don't know how to delete one without the other one going south. and there is my Bear Foot Leathers Co. facebook for my holsters.
My truck is covered with the 'Arizona pin stripes' from the off-road adventures we take, many are just the small Jeep or 4-wheeler trails.

as for the Snake Guards, don't bet your life you won't need them. for every snake you see, you pass a hundred or more.

Thanks for the great information Ozz. DW and I like to walk/hike and be active and it would appear to us these Snake Gators are certainly worthy of the investment and discomfort they may pose.
