Galley gray water dump valve handle broken

Hello

Has anyone here experienced a problem with the galley gray water dump valve handle breaking off at the trailer frame? I just had my second one break.

The first one broke because Keystone had installed one that was to long and apparently some thing from the rear axel wheel had hit it. The second one just broke from wear where it rubs on the hole in the frame.

The only place to purchase the correct handle and pull rod is from Keystone.

We had that problem last year while we were traveling in the Southwest. Camping World put a new handle on it for us and so far we have not had any problems.

I believe you can use 1/4" all thread from a hardware store. it is solid and will bend but wont break. I think the size is right, double check before buying.

My factory rod was too long and got bent by the tire. A 1/4 inch threaded rod and a couple of barrel nuts and it will be better than new. I took 2 screws out of the belly pan and reached in and threaded the rod to the valve and backed it up with a nut to keep it tight. Locktite wouldn't hurt also. I cut the rod to length and put the handle back on. By the way, the OEM rod seems to be nothing more than a rod from a gun cleaning kit.

Hi

Thanks for the information. The Montana is presently 100 miles from home and I forgot my toolbox so it will be a week before I get back to the Montana with tools.

Mine broke a year or so ago. I have an older Monty than some of you. The rod in my unit is solid, but where it attaches there is a short piece of thin pipe that joins to the longer solid rod with a cotter pin. The threads are on the short piece and it screws on to the handle on the valve. I know they have trouble finding these rods at the warehouse - I lucked out and at a keystone dealer in Kalispell, I was talking to the counter (salesman) guy and we walked out back. He spotted a spare one laying on a counter!!

Just finished replacing broken galley valve handle on 2000 Monty- Used 1/4" threaded rod and barrel connecter to replace oe aluminum rod- Had to cut opening in underbelly covering to reach in to do repair- Watched rv tech do this on previous occasion[sp?] so I knew what was required- Resealed cut area and called it a day- Don
