I use both a ladder mount and the ground mounted tripod. On many occasions, the RV park has a tree, etc. in the way of my roof mount and I need to go to the tripod. I also sometimes just put the dish on the ground near my RV. Also use a small gauge cable lock to secure it wherever it is mounted.

This is my set up on my 2018 Montana 3121RL. Very Satisfied with installation from Camping World.
Trav'ler 1000, push 1 button and done with set up.

$2300.00 total, expensive but worth it for us being out on the road 7 months.

I also carry a Pathway X2 portable..

In my opinion you have the ultimate combo.

The dealer installed a quick release Dish bracket for the tailgater on the roof . Works fine on roof but have not had to use it on the ground yet .

GT500KR That is the setup we used to have. I would recommend you get yourself a spare LNB cable that goes between the LNB and the turret. In our case and from what I have found in my research it is a common failure point. “No LNB voltage” displays on the control box LCD screen.

We chose to use a ladder mount for our Carryout. It is very secure and also easy to take off when in a spot that has some obstructions. I am very glad we did not go the permanent mount.

I'm glad it works well for you.. I have been out on the road traveling for 5 to 6 months ever year for last 12 yrs...

The aggravation of using a portable one doing a set up got old.. I decided to use a roof one, hardly any issues anymore... Safe Travels

So many people are traveling with Satellite systems now days, that Campgrounds know which sites are Sat Friendly and all you need do is Ask. We have had very few times we couldn't get a signal to our roof mounted dish and if it's just a quick overnite don't even worry about it.

If you go with a Winegard self position system on the roof be aware that you get to pick Dish or DirecTv and they are not interchangeable if you decide to change services. My rig came with a Dish system, I'm a DirecTV customer at home, so now I have to pay for two services.

The only point for Dish is that they have a pay as you go plan so you don't have to pay for the months that you might not be using the system if you're not a full timer.

The Winegard Trav'lr can be converted fm Dish to Direct or Direct to Dish. Contact Winegard and they can give you the parts required to do it. Requires a new LNB and resetting the Control Box.
We were having our issues with Direct and looked into the conversion,

I think satellite TV is a problem with many Keystone RVs. I hope manufacturer representatives read these posts.

Last year, I was unable to get satellite reception from Dish. I hired a satellite expert at my own expense to look at my system (2019 Montana HC.) The tech told me that the KeyTV splitter will not work. They supposedly replaced the splitter under warranty and it still doesn't work, just like the tech said.

I'm in FL now, and I had to bypass the KeyTV splitter again. I know now KeyTV connection will never work for Dish.

I know readers here use various methods to bypass. Sad that with expensive rigs we have to bypass the factory system.

If you really are using splitters then that’s the problem. This topic has been covered quite a few times on the forum. Perhaps it has become worthy of a sticky. With the Keytv system you will require additional components to function with satellite inputs. I believe this is noted also within the Winegard documentation on this forum as well.

Another thing we have been using a lot IF you have good cell service and unlimited data, And a Iphone is a lighting to HDMI adapter, we stream netflix movies etc all the time, the adapter can also charge the phone while watching a movie, plugs right in to the back of the TV!
