demplex fireplace

Can these fireplaces be run with a 2000w generator? I have looked and can't find the wattage.

Don't have my book here but I think they are about 1500 watts. 5000 watts would be about 40+amps. Jim

The Dimplex runs on a standard 15 amp. circuit like most other small portable electric heaters and therefore won,t exceed 1500 watts. It should run on the 2000 watt generator, but remember that the 2000 watt rating is the start-up rating and not the under load running rating.

Good idea! A happy wife is good.

When it's below freezing, run the propane furnace, if the heater is too close to the thermostat, it will not let it come on, and it needs to run to keep the lines under the belly warm.
Have fun,
Ozz

According to my EMS it draws around 12 amps. Similar to a 1500 Watt electric heater.

I had mine out a couple of days ago to replace the dimmer switch. The lable said 1500 watts.

Found the dimmer switch to cost about $30.00 knob about 28.00 and shipping brought it to a total over $80.00. I twisted the wires together and did without the switch.

Bear (bare?) in mind too, other loads that might occur. Such as the converter that charges the batteries and runs most of the lights in the trailer. If the batteries are charging, or you are running lights, that adds a load to the 120 volt side. Also, the ceiling fan, a couple of the other lights, and other 120 volt loads come into play, IF someone forgets and trys to start them. With your 2000 watt generator, it should be fine for the "fireplace" and the converter. Just won't be able to turn anything else on.

Remember the old "Green Acres" show with Eddie Albert and Ava Gabor? Remember that generator out back, and how they had to manipulate what they could plug in and run in the house???

Also, remember that your fuel consumption on the generator will go up considerably. Generator fuel consumption figures are usually based on only a partial load.
