We bought our 5'er in Las Vegas at time of sale they gave us a permit to travel with we then brought our 5'er home and did all DMV here and yes they had to see it to verify the vin number we paid some sales tax in Nevada I believe it was 6% and they sent it by fed ex ahead of us and all the paperwork needed to regester to our local DMV office so when we got home they were ready for us. We then paid the rest of sales tax for the correct amount. It was very easy to do. If you call you dmv and ask where you need to bring this unit so it's easy for them and you they my send a agent out to meet you. That's what I did and she came to a location that worked for us. Reno sells all kinds of autos rv's and trailers to folks here in California I'm sure the dealer will have a good idea of how to do this for you. Good luck and happy camping
