We just use the blue tube to catch the big chunks. But most times it does take most odors out of the water so I can make half way decent coffee. But for drinking water we carry cases of water in bottles. Yeah I know it's very green of me but sorry but living in Texas we are in the habit of keeping cases of water on hand and are used to grabbing a bottle or two heading out the door or when ever. I am looking into one of the whole house filters cause ain't nothing worse then yucky water for your coffee.
