Hydraulic Slider Fluid

I have a 2010 3400. Can anyone tell me what hydraulic fluid I need to buy to use in the reserve tank? I cant seem to find the type I should buy.

Refer to this topic and the posting by MIMF - he specifies what you should use.

Two different Keystone service managers have told me any ATF will work. I have always used whatever ATF my tow vehicle uses. Extremely rare to have to add any, in my experience.

Mel, the story is this. Go down to your nearest Wal-Mart and go to the rack for ATF in the automotive section. Look for the cheapest stuff they have on the shelf. It has been awhile since I have bought any because, I bought several quarts but, the bottle is blue with red labeling. If it states "Dexron-Dexron III/Mercon-Mercon 5" on the label......that's what you want. Again, don't pay any attention to the color. What you buy has red dye in it and what is actually in the reservoir of the pump may not. Mix it together, it won't hurt a thing. If anything, it will help make the fluid more visible in the reservoir. Be sure to add the fluid when the slide rooms are in or, closed.

Let us know how this turns out.

X2. That's what they were saying at the rally.

Waittttttttttttttttttt. I called the RV service center and spoke to the manager about the hydraulic fluids to use. First, if the fluid is RED, it is DEXTRON ATF. If it is BROWN, it is normal hydrolic fluid. Hope you didn't mix'em yet. Also, if your slides are out, do not fill the resovoir until slides are retracted. If you fill ot with them out, you will have a major mess or maybe blow a line or seal.

Service Manager is wrong... I just bought some Mercon 5 and it is RED.

The following was copied and pasted direct from the Full Wall Hydraulic Slide Manual on Lipperts Website: Any ATF can be used. A full synthetic or synthetic blend works best such as Dexron III or Mercon 5.

The other manuals there say the same thing. I just went thru all of this as I have a blown piston.

Thanks for the feedback. I will pick some transmission fluid up tomorrow. I don't need any now, but wanted to have it on hand.

Twice now when I have opened the stabilizer/slide compartment door to prepare to hitch up, I have found hydraulic fluid inside. I don't appear to be losing any fluid in the tank and I have not found fluid anywhere else but inside that little door. Anyone else have this or know why???

Ron, yep had the same exact thing with our Monty, took off the valve control knobs and tightened the jam nuts on the valves and solved our problem.

Thank you for the info. I've not tried to take the knobs off - do they just pull off????

When I had the Level-up put on, I was told ATF, the cheaper the better.

Ron, I think they were held on by a allen head set screw, but I'm not 100% sure. I just removed the knobs and tighten the jam nuts, didn't take much, but never leaked again after that.

My book says any ATF Type A, (not type F - old Ford trans fluid). For me, Type A is hard to find so you can use Mercon, Dextron, etc since these are suitable alternatives to Type A.
