"Brake Smell," someone was watching over her!

We had a nice time at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park this past weekend. My dad and step mom were there also. We were camping next to them.

On the way back I was behind my step mom while she was following dad’s Class C M/H in her car. I started smelling what smelled like burning brakes and I kept looking at the camper brakes to see if anything was amiss. I never did find anything that made me question my brakes. Everything looked great but I kept watching anyway. When we got to the traffic light at the intersection of U.S 23 and Route 1, (which is the road that goes past the park and the one we were getting ready to turn from) dad had went through the light and I saw it change. To my surprise I seen my step mom going through the red light as well. She was going extremely slow and just kept creeping on through. About that time a car had started out from the light when it changed and swerved around her. Behind that car was a pick up truck. The truck proceeded forward and right into the side of her car. I was at the traffic light and seen the whole thing as it unfolded. Fortunately she wasn’t hurt and she didn’t need to go to be checked out later. I checked on her this morning and she is still fine she said she was a little stiff from grabbing the steering wheel but was fine. The truck hit right in the drivers door and damaged it as well as the side of the car and almost tore off the rear bumper. What gets me about the whole thing is that if the driver in the truck would have been watching real well he could have avoided it all together. It didn’t look to me like it should have happened at all. The reason she ran the light was because she had totally lost her brakes and she couldn’t stop.

I do believe that people driving campers and larger rigs are more observant when it comes to something like that and would more likely avoid an accident in the first place. I know there are times when you can’t avoid things from happening but I think this could have been avoided. Things could have been a lot different though, if when she got to the light traffic it had been changed for a while traffic would have been at a much higher rate of speed. That could have really changed things. It looks to us like somebody was watching out for her!

She was lucky--a couple of weeks ago someone ran a red light and hit a mini-van-lady and 3 kids. The little 4y/0 girl was thrown out of the van (she was in her car seat) and died the next day. The guy that hit thme had his liscense revoked 7 years ago and is here illegally. Really sad.
