BIRDS IN THE MONTANA

Last night I was on the site and my wife saw the photo of Rich's Bird in his signature..and asked if he had the bird in the RV? We had been told in the past that we could not have a bird because we use propane in the RV and if the levels got low it would put out a gas that would Kill Birds. Is this true or not. My wife would love to have a bird.

Thanks
Bob

We have an African Grey in our 3400RL and we fulltime. Never had problems with propane fumes, BUT, birds get messy and throw seeds around a lot. But it is entertaining. Our unit is a zoo, we also have a dog and have baby sit our sons animals for extended periods (read months here) those were lizards and spiders, yuck. Never lost a pet.

Not true, no dangerous gas in the unit from the propane system, full, or empty, that is some bum info.

Wellll. That bird is 13 years old and has been camping with us all 13 years and..it is alive and screaming.By the way..We went to a "bird Behavior" seminar put on by a "Bird Lady" we ran into here in Florida.(*Helen made me go) She taught me how to control a bird, something I did not know, and the bird and I are now old buddies. It loves me and it will continue to love me or i will squeeze its little bird neck till its little bird eyes are popping out of its little bird head..It was all a matter of .. Ed..u..ca..tion. it is setting right here beside me looking at me with its beady bird eyes..we are in complete harmoney.

As with any animal one has to 'Be the animal" to understand the animal.Understand how it lives and acts in the wild, what its primitive instincts are.The animal will react the same way in Captivity. If the bird is bitting it is doing it as a normal reaction to something your are doing or something it wants you to do.Example birds will bite your feet when on the floor//well they also bite each others feet in the wild..a normal reaction. There is very little written or known about bird behavior in the wild since they live in trees and fly around it is difficult to follow them around and collect data Most folks have little interest in understanding their animals and try to apply "people" behavior to them which to me is the worst kind of abuse. Anyhow this lady from Australia was incredible in her understanding of birds. I knew from my Dog training days that one had to "be and understand the Animal" but I knew nothing about Birds in spite of all my research. It is just is not out there. It was not the Birds fault that I did not understand it was mine. I was doing the wrong things not the animal. This Lady gave me the understanding I need to "know the animal" and we are old buds. I handled birds in that class that I would not have come within 50 feet of. It was so simple....ED..U..CA...TION..

I Ed..U...CATE birds all the time with a shotgun. Then I fix them with some apple juice or cream of mushroom soup. You might say I'm a bird lover. By the way, Terrie's sister and her husband travel with a parrot all the time. I am prohibited from having firearms within 50 feet of Pepe'.

Ron..Roger that..this bird is about the size of a Grouse and it would take about 10 of them for a meal. This thing cost to much for me to do it any damage and I paid for it. Purchased it for Helen as a Xmas present@ 13 years ago becuse she wanted it and I figured.. Oh well I will get it for you as a Xmas present I mean what could a little ole bird cost. I was prepared to pay as much as 50/60 Dollars for it, She neglected to tell me what it cost. When I went to pick it up and Said.."OK wrap it up and what do I owe you" and the pet shop said "1300.00" I nearly had a heart attack..Otherwise the bird might have been lunch a long time ago. Of course we are old Buds now..

Sounds like the FREE cat we picked up at the rv park in AZ this year. Trip to the vet on day three was over $250.00. Cats are not for human eating unless you are at a Chinese restaurant.

Sounds like our free cat too. He was injured when we got him and cost us close to a $900 to get him well and walking. Saved his life too.

That is amazing Rich, about understanding the bird.
We have used two different dog trainers. One we fired. The second one was great.

I will keep my eyes open for the "cat" in China. I can see where this is headed - probably the same place as after I had donkey there and came home and told Terrie I had a piece of A** in China. Not a good situation.

Rich, in what size cage does your cockatoo live in the Montana? We have an African Grey and want to start to take longer trips than a week here and there. His cage at home is 24" D x 36" W x 6'H and his "weekend camping" cage is only 24" x 18" x 16"H which I think is too small for anything over a week. He HATES it in there for anything longer than a weekend trip. I've been having difficulty finding a cage suitable. Any suggestions? Where in the Montana do you keep him?

I believe Rich has his parrot trained to operate the BLENDER, the birds knows when it is Cocktail time, squacks and Rich come's a running. Blender is at full speed by the time Rich arrives and then the Parrot pours Rich a Drink.
I think I would keep a Parrot like that around TOO. ho ho ho

Dawn..We have a collapsible travel cage that rides in the Crew cab when travelling. 18 deep x 24 wide x20 inches high. we did not order the one recliner and the end table and lamp for the 3400 and the camper cage sits there.. The cage is 5 feet high, 18 inches deep and 24 inches wide. The cage at home is the same size as yours. The Cock a too is smaller than the Grey. John.. We are working on the bird blender training.

Rich, I would bet with a beak like that, I could get him to pop a top on an MGD for me... Is it a Girl or Boy and what is its Name. """"BIRD""""
I have always wanted my wife to get me a CHIMP, I would call him ""GO FER" and treat him really good, once he got his ""GO FER" training complete.. ho ho ho
I like this thread, I am having fun on this Sunday. The last thread I started, just about caused a Riot..... I do like this thread. Prehaps we could get TOM to carve a parrot, if it would hold still.
safe travels John
