Going to Dish TV need input
Good Sunday morning,
I am converting my Direct TV Traveler auto RTU Receiver to Dish.
We have AT&T U-Verse at the Casa and I figure the best way going forward is to do the Pay-as-you-go deal they have... as I understand it at this point.
I am spoiled by recording everything I will watch to zip through the commercials, what is the EASIEST and less cumbersome way to do that with Dish? It looks like it will be confusing, but maybe not???
Thanks for the help.

Recording on Dish is no problem at all. We have had Dish at home for many many years. Added it to the Monte 3 yrs ago. In the RV we use a Tailgater and a vip211k receiver. The vip211k receiver has an external hard drive that turns the receiver into a DVR. An initial $40 set up fee. The box at home has built DVR capabilities.
Just a matter of looking at the guide, locate the program(s) you want to watch, hit enter, and it will ask if you want to record once, or all episodes, or only new episodes. Then you can watch when ever you want. I rarely use it, but the DW records 2-3 shows every night at home. With the home box, 722 something or other, she can watch one program while recording another. But the vip211k box in the RV is a single channel receiver and you can't watch one program while recording another. Except that you can watch a program OTA while simultaneously recording a program on sat.

We have Dish and use a Winegard Traveler and the Hopper with one Joey. The Traveler and Hopper combination allows you to watch shows from any of the three satellites on either TV at the same time. With the Hopper recording shows is as easy as Bill explained it except with the Hopper you can program it to eliminate commercials altogether from many prime time network shows automatically.

Jim,
Get a VIP-211K with ACS Tuner, add USB disk drive like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Elements-Porta...USB+DISK+DRIVE
Pay one time DVR fee ($39.99) and you can record Sat prog, or off air or both at same time (1 sat and 1 off air at same time).
There is also a VIP-222K which has two Sat Turners in it (can record two programs at once). With Travel Mate antennas (multiple LNB) but not with signal LNB dishs like Carry Out or Tailgater.

Thanks John.. and everyone who contributed, just want to have all the facts before I remove the Direct TV reflector and install the Dish reflector and arm.. and re-program the whole mess.
Did anyone ever wonder if the travel is worth all the tweaking we do to these rigs?
I guess I know or I would not be doing it. and.. everyone is not a nut like I am and do all this work to their rig.

I guess I am just a bit overwhelmed, I have been at it for a long time, and am a bit frazzled.. But, I can see the results and the end of the tunnel so to speak. (No, no Train )
