TriCare Prime For Military Retires May Go Away

The attached is self-explanatory. Please take action and submit a response (located at the bottom of the link) to our officials to keep TriCare for Retirees living more than 40 miles from a Military Treatment Facility.

It already did for us, over 3 years ago, because of milage. Fort Belvoir/Woodbridge Primus Clinic/WReed used the milage criteria so I am guessing it was on the books but not evenly enforced across the country.

I'm not sure that has too much impact on those covered by Medicare [65+] as Medicare becomes the primary coverage and Tri-Care secondary, I think. I know that VA is secondary to Medicare.
We've been using the standard since I retired, we feel it works better for travelers, no referrals, no premiums, more choice on where we live, etc.

We had prime for several years because we live in far northern Wisconsin. But after we hit the road for one year they dropped our primary and shifted us to another Dr that was 90 miles away. Prime also turned into a major headache while being on the road (having to shift to north, south or west regions and staying where there were NO participating Primaries) Then we found out that Prime is an HMO. At this point we were in Florida and we dropped Prime, went back to standard and picked up a supplemental to fill the gap. Since we dropped prime we have had ZERO difficulties getting health care. Prime for us never really worked as where we live there are no Prime participating Drs closer than 90 miles and being full time it is a large hassle on the road. It may work for some folks but it didn't for us..

I am starting to have some problems with VA on the road also. Quite a hassle using VA in other than your designated area. Right now I do have other health care ins, until I am 65 and go on medicare so I am safe. But I question what is going to happen after that. I am 100% disabled through the VA but yet I still pay $205.00 a mo. in a supplement of United Health Care just so I am assured of coverage on the road. But then again I am the first to say ins. confuses me a lot!!

About three years ago we were taken off of prime at Madigan because we were 90 miles from the mtf. Since then we have moved to SD and are on Tricare Standard, and like it. And as previously mentioned standard is hassle free if you are traveling. We never did sign up for a supplemental plan, and know very little about them. Maybe we should check into carrying a supplemental plan.

We have the US Family Health Plan and like it. This is a Tri Care Prime Plan managed by a local Health care provider. Really good coverage in the Northeast area. However at some point we may go to tri care standard if we continue to be traveling eight months of the year.

We have had Tri Care Standard since I retired. We have a supplement with ASI and it works very well. We intend to stay with ASI and Tri Care Standard until we become Medicare eligible.

We have Tricare 4 Life as our secondary insurer. Works well with Medicare. We have no complaints. As a matter of fact, I've never had Tricare Prime since I retired.

What supplement do you use for TriCare Standard, since I may lose my Prime.

For Tricare Standard Supplement, we use Mediplus (Hartford) sponsered by MOAA. Still carry for the wife until Medicare eligible. $53.00 a month for her. Tricare for Life as a supplement to Medicare is great. political content removed. RVWheels
