Back Up Cameras

Dose anyone have a back up camera on there trailer? If you do and it is hard wired what wire do you use for your round plug? I think my plug is a 7 pin.

Don't have or want one. I bumped a few docks in 20 years and 3.5 million miles as a professional trucker. Didn't need one then and don't now. Also never saw another professional that had one.

I have one mounted on the trailer but it is wireless. If I was going to hard wire it I would run a separate cable for the camera and install a waterproof plug in the Pinbox area. I use mine to keep an eye on people behind me,like the truck drivers running 5 ft behind me at 60 mph.. If you feel more comfortable using one to help you back up then they are very handy..

We have a wireless one on our new BS and had a wired one on the old Montana. I sure liked the wired one better. The wireless one gets interference and the screen goes blank just when you need it. The picture is ok when out of cities on the interstates, but in big cities even on the interstates there is a lot of interference and as you know you need to see what is going on where there is the most traffic...in big city traffic. I am considering going back to a wired system. I installed both, and the wireless one was more of an issue than the wired one IMHO.

We have two hard-wired cameras. One is mounted on our rear license lamp and the other is in our generator box cover to see the 5th wheel when hooking up to the 5er.
The one on the license is wired by a coax and power wire combo. I ran the cable through a gromet in the rear cap and then wire tied it to the frame up to the pin box. The hitch camera is wired direct to the minitor and I plug in the rear camera setup when hooking up the power for the trailer lights and brakes. The monitor will switch between two cameras.
You will find out if you draw it all out on paper first, it will be fairly easy.

When we first started full timing a rear view camera was on my list of things to add. To be honest, with the DW doing so good as my spotter I would not have any use for it while maneuvering into a campsite. As far as using one while going down the road or in passing situations I don't need it for that either.

We are not professional truck drivers, We have had the camera on both our Montana's since 2006. It is hard wired. We use it as a rear view mirror since the Montana blocks our rear view. I do not think we have ever used it as a backup camera. If needed one of us backs and the other guides. We use the plug and cable that came with the unit. The rear view camera Tire monitor system and the Bed saver were the first things we installed on our 2006 3400..

I mounted a rear view wireless on the back center under the running lights, then ran a 50' cable(a little extra cost)through the rear cabinets to behind the cove molding, to the closet and into the basement. This allowed me to connect the transmitter and camera to power and velcro the transmitter on the wall closest to the truck. This made the system good as hard wire system without actually wiring to the truck. My receiver is in the rear window so it's only about 15' between transmitter and receiver, excellent reception. I bought this unit with a rear view mirror monitor from a company out of CA. I believe it was called Tadi brothers, and they also have very good customer service.

Our unit came with a wireless one. It did not work, the replacement one works. I am not real impressed with it but if someone or something gets behind you as you are backing in you would see them and be able to stop. It is kind of nice while on the road to see if someone is camped in the blind spot behind the trailer that your mirrors can't see.

Hi

Our trailer came with one that is wireless between the front cap and the truck and hard wired from the rear of the trailer to the cap.

It works well but have only used it a couple of times when wife wasn’t with me and had to back in to a RV space without help.

My only problem with this one is the receiver is too big to be mounted in the cab of the truck so I only use it when I really need it and then get it out and plug it into the power plug in the truck then put it away when finished.

I have rear camera and 2 side cameras. The rear camera also has sound. All are hard wired. I had to add 2 additional plugs to truck and trailer. It took quite a bit of time to wire them but they work great. The monitor is mounted on a Ram cup holder mount.
