Carter Caves State Resort Park

We stay at Carter Caves almost every year at least once. They are only about 5 miles off of Interstate 64 at the Olive hill exit #161.

I highly recommend a stay there if you are passing through or want to make a nice weekend get-away.

Drop us a line if you’re going to be in the area and we might meet you out there!

I was born and raised about 7 miles from that park. Beautiful.

We were there in our pre-Montana days with a 32 ft TT. We enjoyed it, but have always thought that our 38ft long 3670RL would not fit in very well. Have there been any changes there in recent years+ It seems to me that we had share the electric service, whoever arrived first got the 30 amp, the later comer had to make do with 20 amp. We would consider going there again if we knew we would fit. (Also Grayson Lake SP)

You do share the electric box, however I’m fairly certain all of the boxes are 30 & 50 as well as 15 AMP service on each one. If someone was on 30 I will just plug into the 50. If they are in the 50 I plug into the 30.

They did revamp things several years ago and it makes the electric and water connections look to be in odd places. Sometimes they may be a little further than you would like for them to be but not all are like that.

The only thing I see negative about the place, some of the spots are somewhat tight when trying to back into them. There are several that are large enough and easy to back into. Just take your time when backing in and you shouldn’t have any problem.

If making reservations through Reserve America, it tells the length for each of the sites. You can get a little idea of how its laid out from the map.

We recently drove through Grayson to look at it. I was surprised to find out that from what I remembered of it that some places were done away with for the convenience of a golf course. If you enjoy golfing then that would be ideal. I believe they have less places now than what they used to. However, the ones they do have look nice.

We spent the weekend at Carter Caves. We really enjoyed getting back out once again. This is a late start for us where we usually go out the first time in April if we get a chance. However, the weather acted just like it was April with all of the rain we had. Mostl of the rain came before leaving and then on Friday it cleared up and got sunny just before we left. It did rain at night and there were a few showers but it was really nice over all.

I have also added some vinyl numbers showing the “MOC – 7110 “ on the front as well as on the back. I was hoping to see another Montana this past weekend but didn’t run into any. I’m kind of anxious to pass out a few of the cards I printed up for possible new recruits.

I also try and watch for other Montana's on the road. I know a lot of them don't have their MOC numbers on there but I look anyway. It would be neat to pass someone and see them then we could figure out who they were.

Hey Bill, where did you find those vinyl letters? They seem to match the font and Monty blue color very well?

I had a local sign shop make them up. Gave them a photo of the decal in the front and they tried to match the font. I believe they did a pretty good job!
