Manually running up your jacks and slides

Can anyone explain how to run up the leveling jacks manually also do you have to drop the belly covering to run in the slides manually...want to practice this before I have an issue with the slides. My jacks are already acting up...2015 Montana 3610...I appreciate any insight on this anyone has...

On the end of the pump motor there is a sticker that comes off and then you can turn the pump with an electric drill and a long screw driver bit. You reverse the bit in your drill and then use the blunt end to turn the pump. On your slides what you need to do depends on wether you have hydralic or electric slides.

I am assuming you have both hydraulic jacks and slides. The one pump runs everything. You use a 1/4" hex head drive in a drill to run the pump clockwise or counter-clockwise to extend/retract whatever piece you want. There are solenoid valves which need to be closed/open for different functions.

My jacks are hydraulic and my slides I'm sure are all electric. I saw a video online that shows you have to open up some valves on your pump before you can raise your jacks manually, one for the front jackets and another valve for the rear. Are you saying that's not necessary?

Manual Override
The LCI Level-Up® Automatic Leveling System can be manually operated with an electric drill. In the event of
electrical or system failure, this manual method of extending and retracting the jacks can be used. See the
instructions below.
Note: Unhook the power unit motor from the power source prior to attempting the manual override
procedure.
1. Locate the valves that are paired with the landing gear or leveling jack to be manually overridden.
A. Landing Gear - Valve located on the landing gear (Fig. 8).
B. Leveling Jacks - Valve located on manifold (Fig. 9).
2. Using a 5/32” hex wrench, open the valve by turning the manual override set screw clockwise (Fig. 10A).
3. Remove protective label (Fig. 11A) from power unit to reveal the manual override coupler.
4. Using an electric drill with a 1/4" hex bit, insert the hex bit into the manual override coupler to manually
operate the Level-Up system (Fig. 12).
A. Run the drill forward (clockwise) to retract the landing gear or leveling jack (Fig. 12A).
B. Run the drill in reverse (counterclockwise) to extend the landing gear or leveling jack (Fig. 12B).
5. Be sure to turn the manual override set screw on the valve (Fig. 13A) back to the counterclockwise
position after extending or retracting the landing gear or leveling jack.

Hi

The advantage of having an older unit the slides are hydraulic and the unit has to be leveled manual and I have a system for that that kevels the unit faster than the auto level system.

Our unit is now 8 years old and has 100,000 miles on it after correcting all of the poor engineering and workmanship the unit has become very dependable.

Wife and I are still debating a new unit or refurbish this one.

The TV is now up to 190,000 miles and beginning to show some signs of wear.

Thank you for your responses, I'm relitively new to the fifth wheel world. My wife and I enjoy it and can't wait to get out on the road for an extended trip this year. As far as the slides go, I'm assuming I need to expose the underbelly to find the motor for manual retraction...

I've added an application to my phone that helps with things like this. Lippert offers an app called "myLCI". It is a free app and offers a lot of trouble shooting tips and videos.

I see you have a Montana 3160. AFAIK the curb and street side slides are hydraulic. The bedroom slide may be cables, you can see them from the outside when extended. The same hydraulic pump runs the jacks and the hydraulic slides. The cable slide has a motor on the top of the slide on the inside. It too uses the 1/4" drive on a drill motor system to extend/retract.

I think you are being a little over worried about the slides and levelers. Sure things can happen, but it is not like it happens all the time. You say your levelers are already acting up. I assume you mean they are not acting in a manner that you feel they should when using them...but may be perfectly normal in fact. You should ask the moc about this concern, process the replies, then get on with using and enjoying the rig

I understand what you are saying and appreciate your thoughts. Just wanted to make sure I had the tools along with me to address any possible issues. The rear jacks are acting up right now. When I hit the keypad they stop or cut out a couple of times on the retracting process. I'm assuming there may be an issue with the touch pad, which is disappointing considering we haven't used the fifthwheel that often since we bought it in 2015. Thank you though...

If you are having intermittent operation of your jacks when retracting or extending, it may very well be the 12 volt breaker that provides power to the hydraulic pump. The fix for that is replacement with an 80 amp breaker, and you will never have the issue again. I replaced ours maybe four years ago, whenever Lippert issued a fix, and have not had a problem since.

I did that last year Bob, this is a new problem now. Called lippert they said a new touch pad is about $185.00. Of course you can't diagnose over the phone very well...

A short PDF I made from my Keystone Alpine...almost like a Montana... May help you locate the hyd solenoid valves easier...Lippert manual leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion...

One question though. You consistently refer to the Curbside (CS) and Passenger side (PS). I would think they are both the same side of the coach as both the curb and the passenger are on the right (or door side (DS) whose abbreviation as used by Keystone always makes me stop and think). What am I missing here?

I've always thought of the curb side, passenger side and door side as being the right hand side while seated in the truck.
