Propane Gen.

Anyone with the 5.5 kg onan propane Generator know if it runs off the 2 on board propane tanks?
If so, is it possible to set up for it's own fuel supply?

I have a 6.5 KW version of that Onan and it all depends on how the fuel line is piped in. My genset runs off one side.

Some of the higher end 5th wheels have installed larger dedicated tanks in the frames just behind the axles. I am doubtful that the Montana frames would take that stress. One could check with Lippert directly however Keystone would mor than likely nullify all or part of your warranty. If you are out of warranty and Lippert says it will support the weight I would consider it.

Our 5.5 Onan was installed as part of the factory build and it does run off of the onboard tanks with their auto crossover switch. We did upgrade the tanks to 40 pound tanks as part of the purchase which I would strongly advise as the generator drinks propane at a pretty good clip.

We have the 5.5 factory install also. Piped from the two onboard tanks, also switched to 40 pounders.

I had the 5.5 Onan installed before purchase. Runs off the 30 gal propane tanks. I will soon upgrade to the 40gal because adding the generator to the normal propane consumption uses a lot more gas. Also carry a 10 gal tank in my truck bed for a back up. We have used the generator multiple times in RV parks when power is lost. It is very dependable!

I have the 2019 3120 montana with the Onan 5.5 gen. Yes it runs off the two/or one. actually that's a pretty good idea making it separate from the two.
