Window Cleaning Problem

Need a little help.

Monty is parked by the side of the house and the sprinklers come on about twice a week. As a result my windows have waterspots on them and they won't come off through normal cleaning using products like Windex.

Any ideas on how to get the water stains off??

Vinegar? Can't recommend it. Just giving it as a suggestion. Dilute it in water.

I'm with Judy, try the vinegar. If diluted doesn't try a little on a rag and then rinse well. If you have these spots on the windows you probably have then on your fiberglass as well

Your water is probably hard. Those spots are HORRIBLE to get off. Soft water will eventually take away the crusty residue, but that is not an option when you are watering the yard. The salt residue from the soft water is BAD news for plants!

All that said, have no answer, but think I would try the vinegar to see, and, let us know Tom if it works, will ya??

Jack there is a product available from Schucks auto parts, Kragen's etc for windows. It come is a black plastic squeeze bottle and youput it on a wet widow and scrub with a damp rag and rinse ti cleans of the spots and leaves a coating that helps to prevent spotting. The spots are caused by the manganese+(iron) in the water in combination with lime which is what helps to keep water sweet and soft and able to sheet off of surfaces. Too much manganese and iron and not enough lime give hardwater and spotting. vinegar is a base, not ionic or anionic, it will help some, but not a lot.
This stuff from Schucks really works, I am ouat right now otherwise would give you the name, I can't remember it to save my soul.

Ok Rick I will look in some autoparts stores around here. There are no Schucks auto parts around here.

Tried the Vinegar and it helps a lot but but not enough.

The water is from my well not my drinking supply.

I got all the spots off with what we use to have (can't find it anywhere) called Glasswax. Came in a pink can and it was a pink past. I loved it. I am so sorry that I can't find it any longer. If anyone knows where to get it I will be grateful...After I got the spots off, I put RainX on. Now the water just rolls off. Put it on the truck and my Beetle also. Sure do miss that Glasswax though!

If I can get it clean I will definately use the Rainx or some protector.

I am also going to re-arrange some of my sprinklers to keep them from hitting the windows.

Thanks everybody. Keep the ideas coming in.

Try CLR.
Should be able to get it at Wal*Mart

Also great on water spots on the glass shower enclosure

Try using vinegar & water mix like 8.1al recommends. But instead of using a rag or paper towels use newspaper. Something about the newsprint (ink) that really cleans glass. Been cleaning the truck windows for years this way.

Joe,

I never heard of that one but it is worth a shot. Tomorrow is re-cycle day so I will keep all my papers.

Glenn,

Just got back from Walmart. Now you tell me. So I might just go back tonight and see if I can find it.

Still looking for the glasswax and miracle cleaner.

Thanks again everyone.

Never heard or used Glass Wax but all these comments got me searching. I was able to find this online, apparently it is discontinued but something else is similar. Don't know if anyone is interested but here's the link..... http://www.newhampshire.com/article.cfm?ArticleID=2026

WOW, Thanks Mac I ordered 5 bottles of Glass Wax. I am so relived that you found it...That is the stuff. If someone can find the cans that would be great. Here is a picture of the cans and the bottle. I don't know why they stopped making the can stuff. Probably like everything else it must be cheaper to make it in plastic...I hope the new stuff is as good as the old stuff....Thanks again Mac.

Boy am I glad I started this topic.

Thanks Kathi and Mac for the info about glasswax/window wax. I think I will order some later this year when my traveling is complete.

Would appreciate a report on how this new stuff does. Especially for cleaning.
-------

Glen,

As I was running out the door last night to get some CLR Betty said she had some. I ran out to the trailer to try it and I could see that it did get a lot of grime off but it was too dark to see how good it did. But I could tell from the smoothness of the window it was the best cleaner yet.

-------
Thanks everyone.. Keep the ideas in.

I'm going to order some of the window wax too, not for the Monty intially, but for my glass blocks in the shower at the "brick" house. Haven't been able to get the spots off yet. Thanks!!

Joe2speed : I've used newspaper alot in the past, thanks for the reminder!

Seems like I rememebr another option is cream of tartar from the spice rack. Make a paste and scrub away.
