Fishing License?

Does anyone know if we have to have an Oregon fishing license to be able to fish for salmon or other fish in the rivers of Oregon while we are at the Spring Rally?

Free fishing weekend in Oregon is on June 1st and 2nd. Otherwise, you need a license.

I know you do for the rivers, not sure about ocean fishing; but probably.

Here is a link; looks expensive.

When I was young there was no license required to fish at the coast but there is now. And, of course, a whole lot more rules and protected areas. But that's probably how it stays as beautiful as it was when I was young.

We are up visiting my son in the Portland area. Since I'm planning on doing some fishing while here and when we come back in the Fall, I went ahead and bought my Non-resident license for a year.

Non-resident pricing:

Annual Angling License: $103.50

Columbia River Basin Endorsement: $9.75
(You need this to fish any river that eventually empties into the Columbia river. You wouldn't need it in Coos Bay)

Combined Angling Tag: $60.50
(This is the stamp you need to fish for salmon, steelhead, sturgeon or halibut)

Annual Shellfish License: $28.00
(needed for Crabbing and such)

They also have one, two, three and seven day licenses available that prices range from $21 to $54.50 for fishing.

They also have a three day Shellfish License for $19

Thanks Dave! I may look into a one or two day license. Don't need to pay for a full year when I'm only there for a week and a half or so.

There are several charter boat companies nearby that will set you up with everything you need including a license.

So far, no one has stepped forward to coordinate a fishing trip. If you are interested in coordinating it, see this thread and let me know.

Thanks Scott but I keep my feet on dry land or in ankle deep water and not fishing off a boat if I can help it. Been there and done that before the at my age now the "sea legs' are not near a solid as they used to be! Sorry!

I'm juggling events here and still haven't plotted out our trip to get there so no time to start another task unfortunately. We will look into it when we get there. Hopefully there will be some interest in a last minute excursion!

Unfortunately, our rally is too early in the season to get any salmon. From what I'm reading, salmon don't start running here until early fall. There are other fish to be caught, but I'm not seeing salmon as being around while we are there. http://wildriversfishing.com/coquille.html

I didn't think about which fish were running. Let's just leave it as an individual activity for those that want to arrange it.

Just down the road from the park is the little town of Charleston. The nice attribute of Charleston is its closeness to the ocean. There are three (that I know of) fishing charter companies there. You might want to check with them to see what kind of plans they offer. They are:
  • Betty Kay Charters - (541) 888-9021
  • Pacific Charter Services - (541) 378-3040
  • Sharky's Charters - (541) 260-9110

There are trips for rock fish, basically bottom fishing which usually get good results as I've been told by my fishing buddies. My son-in-law is in Pacific City as I post this with clients for his business doing just that! As for me, no deep sea for me! I'm a chummer as they call us in Oregon and I have a lot of friends that are too, chummers! I live on the Columbia River in St. Helens. Looking forward to meeting you all!!!
