Bed Boxes
The CFO has given me the approval to look for a new bed box to replace the one I have now. I want a low profile type (no higher than the bedrails) but don't know whether to go aluminum finish or painted black, both have plusses & minusses(sp?). I have a black sprayed-in liner and think the black box would look better, but am afraid of chipping with the aluminum under showing through. Who has a black box, and how well has the paint held up?

Bill,
I would look at a bed box that also has a aux. fuel tank in it.
I have a 70 bed Trans-flo tank in my truck and would never be without a aux fuel tank.
Yes it does add weight, but the savings over time in purchasing fuel in states with lower fuel cost has saved me alot of money.

Sven,
Actually, that's on the list for few years down the road (literally!). Right now, the plastic box I have is no longer suitable and I' willing to put in a metal box temporarity (2-3 years) until we go for the aux fuel tank.

Mine is steel (from Tractor Supply) and was originally painted an off-white. I painted it flat black back in 1999. It's in its third truck. It has some scratches and could use a new coat of paint but I'd say the paint has held up well. It just needs some refreshing. If painting over aluminum would it need a coat of primer first?

Bill,
I have the diamond plate steel (aluminum) and like it very much.
No scratches and never needs painting.
