I had an ford 08 diesel and traded it in for 2011 ford gasser. I was towing 08 Montana that weighed 12000 lbs full. I maintained 65 mph going up hills here in east (ny to Tennessee on Rt 81. It did shift a lot more and rev a lot higher but it maintained 65 mph.
I used the truck mainly to go to work and got it just to tow the 5th wheel on half a dozen weekends and 1 or 2 weeks a year on vacation. The gasser works well for this and it's easy to find gas when towing. I don't know if I would tow much more then 12000 lbs but the one I have is rated to tow 15400 lbs. If I was to be towing all or most of the time then I would get a diesel.
