Help with New Toilet Installation

We bought a new Dometic 320 toilet and my hubby is going to install it tomorrow. The water supply line is too tall to connect to the new toilet so he has to use a stainless flexible water line attached to the existing pex line and toilet. The problem is the 1/2" stainless fitting keeps cross threading on the toilet's 1/2 male fitting (factory installed fitting).

Suggestions? I sure hope so! I want my new toilet! LOL

If he’s has cross threaded it multiple times, it’s likely he has damaged the threads on the male fitting and will have to replace it as well.

Agree with the above, however check the stainless line and and make sure it doesn't have the bad thread on it.

No need to use the flex stainless you can go direct to the toilet with Pex using Flair it Brand fittings available at most hardware stores attached is the fitting that goes to the toilet buy a short length of Pex and a Flair-It fitting to extend your supply line the fitting are Very easy to use .

I sure would like to consider replacing our thetford but would get into a world of trouble with all those adapters and plumbing fittings. I'm a silver solder kind of guy - worked in a/c and refrigerator repair 40 years. Plumbing scares the crap out of me.

I have done some PEC plumbing recently. It is much much easier to play with than PVC. Just need the right crimpers.

Had problems with mine from day one. After the dealer sent a mobile tech out four times I bought the 320. Install would have been easy enough but, with work I didn’t have the time so, I asked the tech. He charged me 45 to do it.

And it probably took him 20 to 30 minutes to do it. Still a great deal. It took me an hour start to finish with an cut-off valve using pex but this is an great improvement over the thretford. The wife had an hard time understanding why i replaced something that wasn't broke but i didn't want to wait till i had an horror story to tell.

Must be a wife thing. Took me a few tries to explain it to mine as well.

No one has mentioned sharkbite, I'd use a shark bite, easy peasy.

PEX, PVC, or copper, either works great in a sharkbite

Not exactly sure where all the problems are. On mine the bowl wouldn’t hold water. They made some adjustments then, replaced the seal twice and then put in a new ball, seal and, pedal. The tech told me it looked like the porcelain wasn’t shaped right.

We have been on the road for 8 months with no issues with a 2018 unit picked up in September. I would think it could be repaired with better quality parts rather than buying a new toilet.

We were at the point of total replacement anyway. Sure it would have been under warranty but after talking to the dealer, the tech and reading about other problems I decided to pay the money for peace of mind.

Yes I understand, I just would like for someone to explain to me exactly what it is that fails and causes a flooding issue. The water flush valve or what ?

With flooding your rv being one of the worst things that could happen to your rv and an new dometic with sprayer for 199.00 at ppl , i decided to go ahead and change it out before the inevitable happened. This might be one of those things where the old adage 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' may not apply.

Not having the flooding problem and, without doing a search my educated guess would be this. The water valve on the toilet starts leaking on either the intake side or discharge side. If your bowl holds water and it’s leaking on that side it will overfill and flood the camper. If it leaks at the bowl seal it will do the same or even fill your black water tank and flood your camper. If it’s on the intake side of the valve it will just flood the camper.
Hope that helped.

I heard several people on here recommend sharkbite. Also the guy at Home Depot loved them and said he wished they have been invented 50 years ago!! HD had a demo pex pipe on the wall with a shark bite and the removal tool. Just slide it on firmly and you can yank on it all you want. Slide on the removal tool and press a bit and it all slips right off. I did it on my recent install with no problem. Oh, and I bought a cutter tool and it went thru the pex like butter. MUCH easier than trying to use a utility knife or a hack saw.
