Returning From Alaska

Just a general question: We will be on an RV Caravan to Alaska from June through August. The Caravan ends in Telkwa, BC, on highway 16. On the return trip, I have planned to continue south on highway 97 and highway 1, entering the US at Sumas, south of Abbotsford, BC, on highway 11, ultimately connecting back with I-5 near Bellingham on 542. The question is: is it better to take the route described above, or take highway 99 south from Cache Creek, BC, through Whistler and Vancouver, and then on to Blaine, WA and I-5?
Thanks in advance!

I live just north of Sumas in Chilliwack BC. I would be leery of heading towards Squamish at cache Creek with my Montana. I have done the trip several times with my 4 x 4 pick up and I find the grades of the road too steep.

I have taken 97 from cache creek to Prince George twice and it was easy in my opinion.

What are the % grades of the road that are too steep? (8%, 10%, 12% or greater)?
