Quiet water pump?

Is there such a thing as a quiet water pump? Mine is loud enough to wake the dead!

Loose lines will do this, also if Air is in the lines it will be loud. Mine is in both of these conditions

Its been my experience its not the pump as much as the connected water lines vibrating against other lines and/or anything they touch. The pump has some noise
as well but if mounted on rubber feet or rubber washers under the feet, much of this noise is eliminated.

If your pump is connected directly to pex or other hard lines, much of the noise can be eliminated with a flexible line placed between pump and hard lines. They actually make a kit for this purpose.

I've also had good luck by wrapping any suspected vibrating water lines touching anything else with simple foam pipe insulation. Just cut to length and use a few tie straps to keep in place.

I've used these methods on several campers to greatly reduce pump noise but always have some noise. Its just the nature of the beast.

There are a number of things I have done to quite mine; it is much better now.

1. Go behind your convenience center and use foam pipe insulation everywhere you have a water line touching another water line or touching anything else.

2. Install a water pump silencing kit
https://www.campingworld.com/shurflo...hoCwOQQAvD_BwE

3. Insulate your water pump from the floor with some type of foam.

4. Replace the FloJet (sounds like a jet) with a ShurFlo water pump.

The first three steps helped but replacing the water pump produced the most results.

As a side note; whether you replace your pump or not, you should install a strainer on the water pump inlet. Keystone does not install one, but they are nice enough to leave construction debris in the tank and water lines. Less than a year old, my OEM FloJet failed because of this; that is why I had to replace it and found that the ShurFlo was much quieter.

Attempted dampening the noise

I spent some time this afternoon working to dampen the vibration trouble spots. I used some fairly stiff, but still spongy, weather stripping under the mounting feet (to cushion angainst the floor) and where pipes/hoses vibrate against each other or against structure. This may have helped to some small degree, but the last time it shut off as I was putting things away, I wondered why I even tried, it was still so loud!

If you have pounding, the pex is rubbing against something. Happens to me if I improperly load basement with something touching the pex.

I also installed an accumulator tank: https://www.amazon.com/Seaflo-SEAFLO.../dp/B01MVA6GCC

It really helped with the hammering. They are required in new home building to keep the pipes from hammering. This one is small and fit right next to water pump.

Ditto on the pipe insulation and silencer hoses. It is still noisy but not like a rivet gun on the frame. I did take the opportunity in the quest for quieter water flow to replace the pump with a Remco high flow unit. It flows more pressure with volume than a lot of campsites. Comes in handy for showers.

You can do everything you can think of to quite your water pump but if you don't replace the water pump itself then you are spinning your wheels. As mentioned replace the factory flo-jet with the shur-flo water pump and this will do much more to lower the noise than anything.I replaced my water pump and installed the quite kit which is an inlet and outlet hose and installed some pipe insulation around the pipes where I could and my noise reduction is probably 75 or 80%. When installing the hose quite kit make sure to keep it coiled so as to help reduce some of the noise. I have some noise behind the shower where I can't do anything about it but if I am in the bedroom then I can barely hear the vibration behind the shower. I hear very little noise from the water pump and that is if I am trying to listen for it. You can install the pump and quite kit for about 80 bucks and about an hours worth of work. I know it's hard for some to replace the pump when it works but if you want it more quite then this is the solution.

They use the cheapest there is. If you are contemplating an upgrade, keep gpm in mind and not just pressure.

Make sure the fill valve for the fresh water tank is set back to city water after you fill your tank. If you don't, lots of air will get into the system and the noise will drive you bonkers in no time. We learned this the hard way. We are happy with the water pump in ours now and can only hear it if we are in the shower because it is located right beneath it.

Texan, I had the noise behind the shower also. I was able to use styrofoam(?) pipe wrap from below the shower and push it up along the water lines as far as it would go. Just enough to stop the pipes from hammering.

Thanks for the info. Mine doesn't hammer but does have some vibration so I will see if I can get to the back of the shower.

Shurflo Revolution 4008-101-e65. 3 gal. per minute and 55psi. 61.99 at amazon and 60.00 on e-bay. This will replace your factory pump with no modifications.Your factory pump is 2.9 gal. per minute. It took me about an hour to install and add the quite kit plus add foam around all pipes I could access. Good Luck.

2.9 to 3.0 not much of a upgrade ...? Is it worth it ?

Yes. The new pump will not be an upgrade as for as performance but will be much more quite compared to the factory Flo-Jet pump you have now. Be sure you also add the quite kit which is an inlet and outlet hose to help absorb the vibration. The pair of hoses is about 20.00 . The hoses need to stay coiled to help with the vibration. If you don't mind the noise you have now then I wouldn't do anything. 2.9-3.0 per gallon will certainly not be noticed from one pump to the other. Good luck.

The Remco 55 Aquajet flows over 5 gpm at pressure. Their website is very comprehensive. You can even view the installation info which is a good idea since some pumps require relays and or larger wiring to handle the higher performing pump. Anything less than car wash pressures in the shower causes the DW fits when washing the hair. Problem solved.

What do you think the max size we can install before the need to install larger wiring and or breakers ..?

It depends on your choice of pump and existing wiring. I was fortunate that the new pump didn't require additional modifications. Those issues can be found in the installation manual. Even how to test the wiring for proper gauge.
