For those with a Dually tow vehicle

What tire pressures are you running in your tires when you are towing, and when you are not? I have been going with the 80 psi in the front and 75 psi for the rear wheels when I am towing, and then go with 75 in the front, and 65 in the rears when not towing, and I measure my tread depth wear with a tread depth micrometer, and it still shows I am wearing more in the middle of the tire indicating that I am running with too much psi? I'm thinking I should stick with my towing numbers for safety, but then maybe go down to 70 in front and 55 in rear when not towing? What do all of you do? Thanks

I run 70 in the front and 60 in the rear whether I'm towing or not. That way I don't have the hassle of airing up or down. I have all 6 tires rotated once a year and my tires have been wearing evenly.

X2, My 2013 and 2017 ram DRWs' never needed airbags. I'm curious why you need them.

For years, 80 PSI all around. I installed air bags because of drop experienced when hooked up as well as bit of a shudder at start when hooked up.

Well I wanted them to compete with my wife? :-) No, seriously, when I drop 3,000 pounds of tongue weight on the back of the truck, it instantly levels everything out real nice. You can see the rear end squat quite a bit when I lift the front jacks up, and let all the tongue weight come down on the trucks rear end. My B&W 25,000 pound hitch is as far forward as I can place it, putting the center of the tongue weight just in front of the rear axle. I guess i should try 75 in front, and 65 in rear and see how that works. Just in case, I have the Yokohama Geolander A/T 235/80 R17 tires. This is what the sticker on the front door says my tire pressure should be for the truck. I am assuming this is just with the truck empty, so that is why I went with 80 for the fronts, and 75 for the rears?

Pretty new to this so take my response with a grain of something. I go with what is on the door sticker. It gives 1 pressure for the front and 1 for the back. It makes no mention on the sticker or the manual that I saw to saw to increase pressure when adding a load

I run 80 in the front loaded or not, I run 70 in the real loaded and 60 unloaded, works for my setup.

DadsHemi, I agree, the front will probably have close to the same weight on the tires whether towing or not. I might try 70 instead of 75 on my rears for the next trip? Thanks

I don't have airbags and don't require them. When I referred to airing up and down I was talking about tire pressure.

Door sticker says 60 /60. I run 60 in the fronts and 55 in the rears. I have even tread wear this way. If I bump it up to 60 in the rear ... I wear more in the center of both tires on each side. If I were to run 80 psi on the rears like the sidewall says ... I'd not be able to keep it between the navigational beacons as my truck gets real squirrely in the rear end with that much pressure. Found that out one time when had tires changed and store put 80 psi in them per sidewall max.

70 fronts, 65 rears towing or not. 35,000 miles on tires with no visible wear and ride is fine towing or not.

This is the exact air pressure i use. Obviously some have not weighed there rigs. My front weighs the same loaded or empty so i leave the air the same. I have over 2750 lbs of weight on each front tire and my maximum is 3042 pounds per tire. I have more weight on each front tire than on each back tire on my dually. I would rather blow a rear tire than front tire. My hitch weight was 3480# not counting the 300# air bag hitch . I would rather run a little high on air because to little means more heat. Under inflation is just as dangerous for the truck as for the trailer.

Sorry Lenny I was talking about the OP as my 13 and 17 ram DRW never needed them. but was X2 on the pressures.

I run 75 all round in my dually and run 75 psi in the air bags. And why airbags because iam sick of every person flashing there lights at me at night, because my truck was high at front from weight of trailer. So I hook up watch the drop and bring it back up to where it was with bags

I run 65-70 all around. PITA to keep adjusting the PSI. My truck generally sits idle while not towing though.

We use MFG.'S specs - 70 front 65 rear cold at all times with no abnormal tire wear.

My Ford dealer said to go by whatever the sticker says whether towing or not. Mine is 75 front and 65 rear. Works fine for me.

I leave the fronts at 75, as per the sticker, whether towing or not. I bump the rears to 70 when towing for the duration of the trip. After returning home, rears go back to 65 per the sticker.
