? The springs on the screen door
Those of you who have installed the springs on the screen door of your Montana. Did you stretch the spring, and then twist it to cause it to close, or just twist the spring before screwing it in? Hope I’m making enough sense that someone will be able to respond.

Andy, If we have the same application - I simply stretched the spring to it's fastening points - I never had to twist it and it had enough tension to pull the screen door shut.

I just stretched it a little, it works pretty well. Go from low to high on the door.

OK, I have a ’07 3400RL, I’ve seen those who were able to install them on the inside of the door where the spring was actually pulling the door in. Mine is such that I have to install the springs on the outside of the door, in a fashion that it would pull the door open. I’ve seen others that were installed this way so I assumed that they had put a twist in the spring to help it close. Obviously I’ve missed something.

Here's mine.
You'll notice the extra hole in the bottom picture? That was my first try without stretching it. As Ozz said,Stretch it a little.

Thanks all for your response, and Jack thanks your photos, it helps to clarify things. I guess it works, but it seems that, the springs would actually be pulling the door open. I’ve got soooo much to learn!

When you open the screen door, the spring is stretched due to the lever action of the hinge (as seen in Jack's photo). When the door is released the spring will return to it's original coil, thus pulling the door shut.

I did like Jack except I used the middle screw with one spring on the top hinge and one spring on the middle hinge. Link to my photo of spring installation

Some outfit used to make a door spring that was a small diameter and screwed above and below the middle hinge.

John, is there a method to your madness or simply happenstance? Also I noticed that you keep the screw close to the edge of the door, was that intentional?

My logic says you want the "pull to close the door" as close to a straight line as possible with the hinge. Also I did not want to interfere with the closing of the main door since the springs are between the two doors. It works well for me.
I picked the screws the farthest point away from the hinge point for the same reason. I used two springs but since we have three hinges I have the option of a third if needed.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

Me got’s it done. The springs & the lights, the springs draw the door in though not enough to latch it, I’m satisfied. But also the door is rubbing the floor a little and I can’t seem to adjust it. I’m having a little trouble getting it to latch. And the lights work, Ma Ma’s happy. Obviously it doesn’t take much - she married me.
