Ford activated the Build feature 2017 Superduty

I will begin with a short disclaimer. I love my current truck, but I am a new vehicle junkie! I can't help myself. This is also not a truck bashing thread... That said, I built on Fords Website a 2017 F450 fully outfitted, with a few options I liked, and can't live without, dual sunroofs, inflation seatbelts, built in safe. Oh and yes, I like every option! Seven cameras, tow/trailer park assist, and a entire set of new features available. It was like being a kid again, looking at the Sears catalog, waiting for Christmas! The new truck has a 176 inch wheelbase, and promised more HP /Torque. So the final retail number $87,988.00. I paid much less than retail for my truck in 2013, but that's about $9500.00 more than my retail sticker was on my current 2014 truck.

So all that's left is Sue! Yes, it will be a hard sell in deed. Figure it be 2018 model before I can get her soften up? New Truck will require new RV...got some work ahead of me. Want my will to read "being of sound mind, he spent all his money before he died"!

Know how you feel. My wife has given me the green light for a new truck in 2017, have also priced the replacement. Sure want to see what it looks like, with the body changes. Internet pictures, looks like a GMC. With the hype on body change in 2017, was looking for something major that would shake me up with excitement. Suspect I will like the looks of my 2011 better and keep it.

That is the reason I don't go look at the new trucks , I'd won't one. Where we would differ I do not like a sun roof.

Wouldn't even try talking LOML into a new truck - have enough problems talking her into a new mower to replace my 14 year old one!

In 1986 we bought a new Nissan Maxima for $13,500, more than our first house. Now the prices are racing toward the price of our much larger house. Don't think I can spring for that.

Don't know about F450's. But F250/350 sell for around invoice minus any rebates in this area. That was about $14,000 off sticker on my F350, well below invoice. But even that leaves a steep price on these new ones.

Just bought a "new" more expensive home...a new truck is NOT in the near future for me!
However, Artemus... if you are going to be selling your current truck, let me know I might be able to upgrade to a "newer" truck...even if it's not a Dodge Ram!

Artemus, What Rear End did you spec? I have the 3:73 on my current truck and like it but it looks to be not available on the 2017 F350 dually, diesel. They offer the 4:10 or 3:55. Maybe with the increased torque and HP the 3:55 would pull OK and still get decent fuel mileage???? Your thoughts???

Bruce I believe the F450 4.10 is all they offer. It's on my current rig. My mileage has been excellent in my opinion! I did understand the wider front axle can now be ordered on the F350. That has been a big advantage in turning radius the F450 had over other HD trucks!

Artemus Thanks for your reply What kind of fuel mileage are you getting? I am getting between 10 to 11 with the 3:73 gears pulling about 15K pounds on my SOB. Also why do you choose a F450 over a F350?

Getting 12-14 towing with my Montana. I had planned to go bigger on an SOB but Heath issues stop it for now. The other reasons were great resale of the F450s and much better turning radius. The F450s wheels are set out further allowing very sharp turning radius.

I guess I will need to go check out the build site. I always wanted bigger running gear with 19 1/2" tires. I would prefer the SRW with higher load capacity verse the DRW. Just my own desires, I have seen soon DRW trucks modified to this setup.

I don't think the SW has higher load capacity then the F450?

Oh I am not thinking that you can get higher rating with SRW than with a 450 or even 350 DRW. What I want is a SRW with a bolt on 19 1/2" wheel so I can get way more weight rating than the current SRW rims and tires offer.

As a retired guy, and traveling more, I can't see me paying nearly $90k for a truck and $80k for a Montana. If in the market for a new RV, I'd be looking for a nice used diesel pusher MH.

That puts you in a new situation all together. My friend with diesel pushers tell me about how much they spend. Tires plus $120.00 shop times, no I stick with fivers. Lol.

We have a 2016 Ford F350 6.7 with 3:55 rear end and have no complaints. The response on the highway has been very good and it handles hills nicely with minimum turbo boost required. Mountains will be another issue.
