Beware of Wix fuel

I don't much care who at the dealership changes the oil. I want original OEM parts and the dealer and Ford standing behind the work. Plus that is the best way to prove I did the proper maintenance in case of future problems.

The dealer is much safer that an oil change shop where a tech may be a new hire with no experance and no one checking his work. Don't ask me how I know about this.

This statement is absolutely true. However, the LOF receipt will have the service managers signature on it, which backs the work of the lube tech. I do my own service, but if I didn't, I would certainly trust the dealer to do a better job than a lube store. In many cases, the lube techs at dealerships move up the ladder to become repair techs. Most all of us started at the bottom rung of the ladder at some point.

My selling Ford Dealer does ALL work on our Ford Truck. That meets the requirement for all warranty work as well as the Ford ESP.

During our last two seasons on the road some of you may remember the issues I had with stumbling engine and limp home mode while traveling through the OKC corridor. I originally thought that I was getting incredibly dirty fuel as the rig would start to stumble and then go into limp home mode. As soon as I changed the filter the problem would go away,(for awhile).. After between 4 and 6 filter changes we finally discovered that my 2006 did not like bio-diesel. As son as I stopped using ANY bio-diesel the problem went away. It was tough getting through the OKC corridor without having to buy bio, as we had to hit several fuel stops before we found a few that didn't pump bio.
I still change my fuel filters regularly but not after every fill up.

I have been using wix for years, never a problem, Oil filters anyways. Sounds like you just had a bad filter, and that can happen to any of them, even OEM. I did but one set of WIX fuel filters for my truck, then I found https://www.dieselfiltersonline.com, they have the Mopar filters, which are actually fleetguard, for cheaper than the WIX, so I but the fuel filters from there, and I get the wix from www.fleetfilter.com I but all my oil filters there, cheapest price I have found. Get them for my boat, all my cars and trucks, never ever an issue.
Any of the manufacturers can have a bad filter, just like any of the "trained dealers" can screw up your truck. I have had oil changes from the dealers leave the old o ring in place WTF. I do my own oil and fuel filter changes, way cheaper, and I and make sure that no stupid mistakes are made. If I screw it up, at least its on me, and not someone I though was "trained properly" Ram dealer wanted $360 to change both of my fuel filters, I got both of them online, mopar OEM, for $90 and took me less than an hour to change them both...

Rich all of this fuel now has some bio in it usually between 3,4% and about 7%. Or that's what I have been told by a local firm that tests diesel to see what's in it.

Lynwood..Ford says 10% Bio is Ok with my truck same year and motor as yours.. not tuned. Some states and stations pump 20% bio and my truck does not like it.

All I know is that about 150 miles out, our Wix failed! Chevy dealer gave immediate and professional service. Replac d it with Delco and remainder of about 3000 mile trip was flawless. I'm a believer!

If the housing on the filter was plastic it is not a replacement for the OEM filter I purchased a Wix for the ranch Duramax and the housing was metal.

The plastic filter is for an older JD tractor that is only 4 cylinders and apparently will fit the Duramax housing.

Also be careful of aftermarket air filters they will cause a P0101 code that puts you in “reduce power” mode.

Interesting. I wonder if the person relaying the information to you was crossed up on who made what for who. I worked for CARQUEST for years( I assume the company to which you refer ). Wix did make filters for CARQUEST. I am actually trying to find out if Wix does make the Delco filters. They are both made in the USA.
Regardless, to the OP's point, if the filter change solved the problem as it did mine, that's all that matters. Wix and AC Delco are both good quality products.

I just called my local GM dealer and they thought that Delco makes their oil and fuel filters which I thought was interesting as Ford has Purolator and Mann make some filters for Ford....

I agree with you guys I only have my truck serviced at the GM dealer. They are competitive with their prices and I feel much more secure.

I work on other people’s equipment but not my own.

I can't find any reason to not use OEM filters. You don't haft to worry about quality, does it fit wright, is it actually made for my truck or any thing else.

I used the brand "X" filters for years. Then I started cutting the filters open after the next change. I will just say that now I only use OME filters. There is a difference, and some of the name brand filters were the worst.

I also hate dealing wih a dealer. I have a small independant garage near me where I get 98% of all my automotive work done. They also change my diesel oil, BUT, I supply he oil and filtr. I buy the Motorcrafe (Ford) filter at Walmart for a good price. I buy my Rotella T oil at Sam's Club. I provide this to my garage people and they do the change for $15, include disposing of the old oil.
Several years ago I did use a Purolator fuel filter on my old 7.3 engine. It did not fit peoplerly and caused a fuel leak which cost me about $100 to fix while on a trip. Always use the manufacturers filters on these engines.
