Ford Super Duty Rotors

Anyone else have trouble with Ford Super Duty (250/350) front disc rotors warping?

I had to replace a set on my previous truck and just replaced a set on my current truck which only has 25k on it.

I know these trucks are heavy and I probably pull a 5th wheel 50% of the time (mostly in the mountains) but it seems to me these rotors are not holding up as they should.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this, or are my braking skills lacking (I thought I was pretty careful). Heading out this weekend (with new rotors) going to see if I can turn up the bias on the 5th wheel brakes to help out a little more.

On another note; has anyone else replaced these rotors? I did it yesterday and thought I was going to die before I got the caliper bracket bolts out and back in. Had an 18" breaker bar and could still barely turn them. I could only get my air impact wrench on the bottom one and it struggled too.

I drove F350's and F450's at work for years and never had rotor problems. I would definitely make sure your trailer brakes are doing their share of stopping or you will be doing rotor replacement again in the future. If your truck has an exhaust brake, use it whenever you are towing. Our Chevy has over 150k and is on the original rotors and pads, and I'm sure the exhaust brake plays a big role in saving the brakes.

I agree that your truck is probably doing more than it's share of stopping your Montana because of the lousy electric brakes the manufacturer puts on them.

LOVE my disc brakes and no problems with my F350 rotors.

Had all kinds of problems with mostly the rear brakes....calibers were the end problem...make sure you use motorcraft parts ! Once I went back with motorcraft parts the problems stopped . I had been getting parts from parts stores like autozone .

No problems with my F350. Use the exhaust brake, tow haul setting and increase the trailer brake setting.

Back in the days when I had to work for a living (in my 20s) I drove trucks and learned from a long term driver how to nearly stop a heavy semi without using the brakes till the very last of the stop.

I have a 2014 F-350 and pull a 19000 lb SOB and just had my 1st front brake job @ 80000 miles. I have had 2 rear brake jobs already. All three brake jobs were pads and resurface rotors only.

No problems with my previous 2007 F350 traded at something over 70,000 miles or my current 2012 F350 at a little over 50,000 miles.

No problems on my 2012 either. I always use tow/haul and tap brakes to initiate downshift before even using vehicle brakes to stop. Trailer brake controller set to 7 for montana.

I had brake issues with my 2008 F350 but it was caliper pistons sticking which in turn caused rotor damage.
If I ever have to replace any rotors on my 2016 I will opt for after market rotors that are drilled and slotted for better cooling and performance, for example:

There are others just as good.
